Can I hear your views please - Newland House School Twickenham or Kings House Richmond

Hi there

Our eldest son has a reception place at both schools. We haven't moved into the area yet, and I'm struggling to decide between the two schools. Kings House seemed a bit more progressive to me, and I liked the headmaster more. However I've heard good things about Newland House and like the co-ed aspect.

Any views from current parents of either school gratefully received!

Hi,do you have other dc and where are you planning to live/commute to &from? Go with the option that is best for your family as they are both good schools.

Twickenham/Teddington are slightly cheaper than Richmond.
Richmond has the benefit of the tube as well as the train.
Do you have any girls I& so there is the benefit of both at the same school.
I believe Kings House prefers you to stay till age 13

We have two boys, so from that perspective we can go with either school.

Also we will be moving into the area so can base where we live around the school. That’s not a problem.

I thought Kings House seemed more progressive, and yes think the kids do stay until 13 whereas Newland seemed to be a bit more relaxed about them leaving at 11. Not sure whether it matters that they will be expected to stay until 13 though if that’s what private secondary schools are demanding at the moment!

Hampton and Kingston Grammar have their main intake at 11 so all the preps in the area are use to it and within the next 5 years a lot of people think 13+ will be a tiny intake for London private day secondary schools. If you definitely want a "major" boys school at 13 Kings House will be better set up in terms of teachers/resources. Buts it's impossible to tell when your ds is 3 or 4!
