Moving to Richmond from abroad - Independent school (reception) for our daughter still possible to register?

Hello,

We are moving to Richmond-upon-thames from abroad, and we would like our daughter to enroll in an independent school for girls (not mixed gender, if possible).

  • The Falcons School in Putney
  • St Catherine School in Twickenham
  • Old Vicarian in Richmond
  • Holy Cross

Do you believe we have a chance at getting a spot in one of those four schools? Any advice for the admission?

Thank you,
Boris

For this year? I don't know the schools but usually private admissions processes really done and dusted by now. Worth ringing them in case anyone has dropped out and to get on the list for a future chance vacancy.

You need to contact them asap and be prepared to wait until after state primary offers day mid April for any movement on waiting lists if they are full. If they are still full you stay in regular contact just in case someone withdraws their child. Are you also considering state schools as you submit your application once you have a confirmed address and the LA are obliged to offer you a place.

It will depend on if there's space - always worth asking. My DD is at St Catherines and its a lovely school.

I would get on the phones. I might be wrong and this is a guess but St Cath,s may be your best bet on that list. Jack and Jill may also be worth a look. All girls from reception up.

You could try Broomfield House, Kew College and Kew Green Prep all in Kew and very close to Richmond.

You might have to wait and see until state school offers are received next month.
Many parents in the local area have a private prep place as insurance but will give it up if 1st choice state primary is offered. The state primaries are really mostly excellent in Richmond borough.

The smaller private schools aren't full for Reception in September, try Jack and Jill on Twickenham Green.
