... play music in the classroom when the kids are working?

My dd has complained of having to listen to crap music (eg - Heartbeat, why do you miss when my baby kisses me etc) when she's trying to get on with her literacy worksheets.

My ds then said his teacher also puts on music. (Different teacher, different school).

Also my ds who's 7 told me today his class didn't get their French lesson because instead they watched the end of A Bugs Life.

WTF?

I couldn't possibly comment!

She did complain a lot. About just about everything.

I have know of a another parent (different school this one) complaining that a lesson was cancelled because the teacher was at her mother's funeral! Now that is a real PITA!

lapsedrunner · 02/05/2007 20:05

Someone please explain what PITA is?

OK, got the message. I'm only at the Kindergarten stage and not a local "native" speaker so very unlikley to be a pita.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 02/05/2007 20:09

I'm not a PITA, I'm a (and I think most of the teachers realise) desperate one with SN kids - there is (IMO a difference)- I'm just doing my best.

And i'm sure in 2 years when I start teaching properly (PGCE year in 2008 - 2009 I hope) Is hall get full karmic comeback.

There shouldn't be words or the children will be writing the words from the song into their literacy worksheets - which could be funny, so maybe she sends them off to "world's funniest literacy worksheets" on BBC 64.

I personally like complete silence - and I am a music teacher!

Blandmum · 02/05/2007 20:12

Tenacious then not a PITA

PITAs are the ones who faff over nothing. Or the ones who make utterly extravagant demands on your time for no good reason.

Like the time the parents of an NT boy couldn't understand why I wouldn't go round all their son's teachers (and this is in secondary) and buy new books off them, because he had lost his book bag. They seemed to think I had endless time at my disposal

PeachyChocolateEClair · 02/05/2007 20:13

Yup, but not primary- shortage subject Secondary.

Why are amture students a PITA????

I am most definitely a PITA parent atm, I'm sure one of you must be ds1's teacher. She looked terrified today when I approached her, I only wanted to give her his snack money.

It ain't all that funny from my side of the fence right now though.

Erm no thats not us LOL!

Quite the reverse.

We're frequently being told off for laughing too much. Wd do turn up and hand work in though, which is something of a novelty amongst the younger stufents (our course is 90% amture students though so we all just have fun- I'll never remember for example how to draw a map of Bangladesh / India / pakistan, but I will alwys be able to work it out by remembering the Profs diagram of a penis )

PeachyChocolateEClair · 02/05/2007 20:21

Greeny you get used to the PITA parent but I think, its great for toughening you up (sadly)

MrsApron · 02/05/2007 20:23

Agree with Spidermama.

For a possible cure for it isn't there a license/fee issue with music. Performing riights or some such thing?

It could kybosh the Buddy and bring on the Beethoven.

MrsApron · 02/05/2007 20:24

i am absolutely certain i will be a pita parent.

choosyfloosy · 02/05/2007 20:27

blimey

can't even conceive of having music in the classroom unless it is a music lesson or related directly to what learning is happening

sounds utterly crap to me, so clearly i have a lot to learn (to music)

PeachyChocolateEClair · 02/05/2007 20:27

Kybosh the Buddy and completely remove any chances of the kids watching Shakespeare, pre-recorded educational stuff etc? yes it may well have that effect.

Just coz heartbeat is inappropriate, if ytou remove all recorded media you're taking a lot of options out of the toolkit.

MrsApron · 02/05/2007 20:30

i would have thought schools had the correct licensed copies of essential curriculum stuff. Do they not?
