Anyone have any tips on what is expected in round 2? Also, any views on the school? Word on the street is not as nurturing as Phoenix was and move to the junior school is not automatic. But I thought a very high percentage made it through? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @braindrain17 just curious how your 2nd round was? Our son has been invited for a 2nd round for his 4+ assessment next week and we have similar questions. Please do let me know.

CanAnyMother · 12/01/2019 21:46

Hi FreeSpirit

We are in the same boat. Do you know how many are in round 2 vs the final number of places?

My son told me nothing about the first round, except that he played with everything...

Good luck!

braindrain17 · 12/01/2019 22:25

Hi both. From what my son had said it sounded like in the first round they spent more time on the social rather than the academic aspects. They played Simon says, some sort of musical game, etc. In the second round I remember they asked him to do a pattern, maybe draw something, spent more one to one time with him etc. Apologies it feels like a long time ago, so can't remember all the details!

Thanks BrainDrain!

Think my 3 year old (summer baby) is going to struggle with drawing etc. On Friday he bought home a picture of a “dinosaur” which was literally a white piece of paper painted entirely brown... Oh well, I love it Wink.

Guess the schools do a good job of finding kids that suit the environment, so there is no point worrying too much.

I hope your son ended up somewhere great that he loves.

@braindrain17 Thanks a lot for getting back to me! So did you land up choosibg UCS pre prep for your son? I would love to know what its like considering I registered without even a tour of the school.

FreeSpiritWithin · 13/01/2019 00:46

@CanAnyMother I can totally relate to the dinosaur pic!! Grin My son does not even like scribbling so I am not sure what he will do on the 21st. All the best to your DS and Im sure he'll enjoy himself.

braindrain17 · 13/01/2019 01:15

The only advice I can give a year on is to take this stuff with a grain of salt. My DS was waitlisted at UCS but got Arnold House and The Hall. He eventually got into UCS as well but by then we had picked one of the other two. And after all of this, it looks like we will be moving from the UK so it was all pointless. Completely unexpected but a result of a great job opportunity that came up. Things I guess have a strange way of working out in the end.. Good luck to your littles ones!

braindrain17 Unfortunately my DS didnt make it to UCS - we are a bit disheartened but Im glad we dont need to move to North London and DS can continue in his current pre-prep. I am sure he will be better prepared (probably) at 7+ to sit for a few chosen schools and will be in a better stage for assessment.

braindrain17 · 31/01/2019 21:41

Really sorry to hear. But please don't be disheartened. I know lots of kids who at 7+ or 11+ get into schools they didn't get into at 4+. At that age kids have very different levels of maturity and it's pretty difficult to assess who is a good long-term fit for the school. Not to mention that later on you and your DS may fall completely in love with another school! Best of luck!

braindrain17 - Thank you so much. Yes that's what we were discussing as well. My DS is a summer born so he is only 3 years and 6 months which means he probably had to compete with boys who were 4 or older. So it might have been difficult for him to even speak up. That's how we are looking at it anyway. I'm hoping with the right guidance he will be able to get in to a good school at 7+ and in a way I'm glad I didn't have to change his school after a year Smile. All the very best to you and your family for moving abroad. Exciting times lie ahead of you!

Hi all, curious on UCS round 2 - know this is a super old thread. Also how many kids are in round 2 vs seats?

I'm curious to know as well! I'm assuming your son has been called in for a second round of assessments next week?

It's so difficult to find any stats on UCS this year!

hopefulmum16 · 12/01/2023 07:43

Yes CAT, he has round 2 next week. I know final seats are 32 but siblings also get some so in reality might only be 25 seats max or even less

hopefulmum16 · 12/01/2023 07:44

Is your son invited too CAT?

Yes! Sorry for missing this. He had his yesterday. He mentioned there it was just a group of 6 boys. How did your DS go?

hopefulmum16 · 19/01/2023 13:28

Ours was earlier this week. I think there were at least 8,9.
assuming at least 100 in total for round 2 or more?

hopefulmum16 · 31/01/2023 22:38

Anyone has any views on how the ucs waitlist moves if at all?
