Hi,

I am new and was wondering how people are finding primary school meals?

The variety provided for children with intolerances, religious beliefs, life choice requirements etc

Personally I wouldn’t allow my kids to eat it, the meat is of a poor quality and the food is awful at times.

There is a meat, halal, veg and alternative option, packed lunches in summer and no vegan option

My daughter is coeliac and is catered for by her school kitchen. We get a three weekly menu and we tell the cook on a Monday what her choices are for the week ahead.

I’m not sure why children with genuine conditions should have to provide their own lunch everyday. Most food choices can be catered for with a little planning ahead. The wider school population wouldn’t know which choices were gf as they really don’t need to. A considerable amount of the menu is gf anyway as the cook has changed stock etc so stews etc are suitable for all.

Most schools we have toured seemed very accommodating with those in Muslim areas/with a high number of boarders from the Middle East having all meals halal as default. Without exception they have all offered a vegetarian option regardless of whether they have vegetarian pupils or not.

Redhead you're lucky to have the choice. Compulsory school meals unless there are medical reasons here fucking control freaks.

Evil you're not in the UK I take it?

Jinglebellhell17 how much are the parents charged for the meals per day? Curious. We are in Wiltshire and at my school they are £2.30. That entitles you to a drink of water/milk, fresh baked bread, salad bar, hot dinner and pudding. Seconds allowed if their is some and time allows.

Yes I am drspouse. I've never heard of another school with compulsory school meals in RL, and only a couple on here. The reasoning is that they can make sure that all pupils get one hot meal a day. They also provide all packed lunches for trips, and all snacks.
