How many school jumpers for one child?

Dd (4) is coming home from reception each day looking like she's been painting herself with her school dinners!

I'm eaither scrubbing it off early morning or if I'm being more organised doing a twenty minute wash the night before. I'm happy (ish their £10!) to buy another one but in the welcome pack they suggested 2 skirts, 3 tops etc and just one jumper which suggests this isn't an issue for most family's. How many do you own?

I really don't want to send her in looking grubby.

I have a week's worth of everything. For a reception child who wears her school dinner on her jumper, that would be 5. Took until year 3 to get away with three pairs of trousers and three jumpers.

kuniloofdooksa · 04/10/2017 10:23

OP: schools that insist on logoed jumpers are supposed (if they are state schools) to ensure that the supplier will also sell individual logo patches so that you can buy cheap supermarket jumpers and sew on the logo (unpicking and resewing each time they grow out of one) - if you have time to do a spot of needlework that might help?

We have 4. I could manage with the 3 but only just. My son needs a clean one every day

2014newme · 04/10/2017 10:35

5
My dds between them Lost 8 in reception

teaandakitkat · 04/10/2017 10:35

Mine have 5 each but they're just the cheap ones from sainsburys and a couple from the school second hand stall. And we still never have enough come Friday!

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/10/2017 10:37

One for dd two ds.

Caulkheadupnorf · 04/10/2017 10:42

The school I worked in recommended 3 or 4 for reception, but in two different sizes so they didn’t grow out of all of them at the same time.

Shiftymake · 04/10/2017 10:52

I have 4- one in the drawer, second on dc, third(yesterdays) in wash basket, 4th drying after yesterday's wash. With good drying weather I have more in the drawer. :-)

Thingvellir · 04/10/2017 10:54

4 as well - one is always out in the ether making its way to lost property and I only like to do one wash a week.

unicornhelp · 04/10/2017 10:58

Ask the school if they do any second hand uniform sales.

I bought 3 new ones at the beginning of the year then picked up 2 second hand one for £1 each from a sale the PTA organised, now I just have to do a wash at the end of the week.

LongBookLargeTea · 04/10/2017 10:59

I have four - two in his current size and two in the next size up. It feels like less of a waste of money that way as the bigger ones fit okay and will last him longer (and when I suddenly realise he's grown out of the smaller ones I don't have to stress about waiting for the new ones to get delivered to school!)

NC4now · 04/10/2017 11:00

I can never have enough school jumpers.

Branleuse · 04/10/2017 11:03

I have at least 5 each, otherwise i lose them or run out of clean ones. Ours don't have to be logoed though, so it doesnt break the bank

burntoutmum · 04/10/2017 11:11

DS (13) has 2

DS2 (8) has 3

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 04/10/2017 11:13

Great idea whoever said about unpicking the logo to see on new jumpers as they get older. I'll ask my mum definetly do that Grin

Hand me downs are hard to come by as most of the class are little siblings. Very small school as well.

My little girl has 2 jumpers and 2 cardigans cause she likes to wear jumpers with trousers but not dresses of skirts.

Didiplanthis · 04/10/2017 14:02
  1. 2 new ones and 4 at 50p from second hand stall. 1 per day and a spare for when they lose it. As I have twins that is 12 jumpers !!
Missstickinthemud · 04/10/2017 17:16

Sounds familiar. If it's not paint, it's food. If it's not food, it's glue. If it's not glue it's mud. Sometimes all of the above.

I think it depends on your circumstances and what suits your routine, you need as many as you can cope with washing.

I have two, but we wash his uniform every night, would need more if we weren't able to do that.

CatkinToadflax · 04/10/2017 20:41

I know somebody whose child apparently has 9. Confused

Mine have 2 each though had 3 or 4 when really little and even messier than they are now.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 04/10/2017 22:21

mine never wears hers so has 1 (doesn't get dirty living in her bag) but we recommend for reception to have at least 3, 1 to be worn, a clean one for the morning and a spare because 1 will inevitably get left at school at some point, usually between me re-uniting all jumpers with their owners in the line to go home and them getting to their parents!

loveisasecondhandemotion · 05/10/2017 10:29

My rule has always been-

1 to wear
1 spare
1 in the wash
All logo cardigans from sole school supplier

This year though I bought a really nice royal blue soft cardigan from M and S so we have 4. It's definitely handy for those mornings when you realise the washing hasn't been done for 2 days! not me of course

Bazinga1234 · 05/10/2017 10:37

This is our uniform policy - my children are in reception and y1. Girl and boy. They are supposed to have logos.

They both own ONE logo tshirt- then they share extras from Sainsbury's in the 3pack. (Both fit in age 5 - huge bonus!!)

My DS wears a green vneck jumper from Asda/Tesco (£3) and has 3 of them. It was 4 but he lost one on the first day!!!

My DD wears a green cardigan from Asda/Sainsbury's/Tesco (£4) and she has 4 of them. She also wears black leggings when it's cold and they haven't said anything. She still has some accidents (young 4) so they have to change her at least once a day and haven't said anything.

I'd personally buy a non-logo one and see if they say anything - they probably won't!
