Not a rule, but it was suggested in the last newsletter that girls hair should be tied up because of the problem with nits that the school had been having.

DD's hair looks terrible by the end of the day if left down. It is so fine and flyaway (just like mine was a child) so bunches or plaits is best for her; she gets no choice in matter! If she complains I have threatened to have it all cut off.

I have threatened that too, Hulababy. My DD who's 11, absolutely refuses to have her hair tied back. (It's shoulder length.) It's actually been a cause for concern, as she seems to have developed a sort of phobia about having it tied back and goes into hysterics at the suggestion. She keeps saying that she can't keep her hands off it, and keeps feeling little 'bumps'. Honestly, you'd have to witness the distress that having it tied back causes her, to believe it. I haven't pushed the issue, have tried to, but don't any more, as she's been having emotional/phycological problems anyway, so this may be part and parcel.

Her hair is quite frizzy and unruly and flyaway like mine, so I have to spend quite a bit of time washing it and blowdrying it straight so it looks reasonably tidy to be left down.

She hasn't had nits in a long time.

I've read that a few times too, scotlou. There's no rule at our school- dd always has hers tied up, usually in plaits, but if this is what it's like when she's resisting headlice god knows what it would be like if she had loose hair.
