Talk to me about Gealic School

DS starts at the Gealic School in August. At the moment, none of us speak Gealic.
Anyone been in the same situation?
Would you recommend me and DH starting classes now?
What about those Gealic "family activities"? Are they worth doing before DS starts school, to get him used to the idea of immersion teaching?
Or just send him along in August and trust in the teachers?
Would love to hear other people's experiences.

Another with dc who went to Welsh medium primary from an English speaking family - because there's no choice here, that's all there is.

Though we didn't choose it in retrospect It's a great gift to have the chance to grow up effectively bilingual, if the Government decide to offer it I don't see why you should have to defend your choice.

Although we didn't choose the fully Welsh medium secondary (it's very, very academically pushy and neither dc nor us thought it would suit) at 11 dd chose for herself to go into the Welsh medium stream in her current school which meant studying around 2/3 of the subjects through Welsh.

Sorry should say I also went to intensive lessons - I'm still rubbish at speaking but I can understand spoken Welsh pretty well now. For me that was another benefit as it gave me the 'push' to stick with it (important as a high %ge of my neighbours mostly use welsh day to day)

My daughter is at the gaelic nursery in East dunbartonshire and will be going into p1 in August. I have friends with children at this school and GGS. GGS expect alot from their parents, our school is alot more relaxed about how much we know.
We used to live near Maryhill and saw the petitions a few years ago to stop what would have been your catchment school closure. However your child will be going to a good school (the secondary is in the top 5 schools in Scotland) and you should read the newspaper post someone mentioned earlier, very positive about GME.

It looks like all the applicants to Glasgow Gaelic and Glendale Gaelic have been accepted. Don't know about placing requests from outwith Glasgow though.
