3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2017

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those parents involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas.

We have had assessments at habs, nlcs and orley farm. This week was a busy one ...exhausted!
My daughter seemed to enjoy the play sessions so that's something!

LilaGrace · 11/01/2017 20:51

Butterfly- hopefully you don't have any more this week! It's so intense isn't it. More for us than them as they don't realise what's on the line!

shopgal9 · 11/01/2017 21:00

Since last Friday we have had St. Helens, habs, nlcs and St. Helens (2nd round) absolutely knackered physically n emotionally x

LilaGrace · 11/01/2017 21:04

Shopgal- wow! Didn't know St. Helens had started second round (but we are not sitting St. Helens). What's your first choice?
We are doing NLCS, Habs, Channing and south Hampstead. We've got second round for south Hampstead and Habs next week. Waiting to hear re NLCS and Channing second round. Good luck x

IzzyFM · 11/01/2017 21:39

Do you mind me asking if any of you had tutors for you daughters? Starting to regret not doing so now x

shopgal9 · 11/01/2017 22:02

Lilagrace yup they have started interviews now just waiting for nlcs n habs (if they come back) would luv to get into nlcs but let's c how things work out
Izzyfm to be honest I got her tutored n worked with her at home too nothing too vigorous just once a week x

Mumstheword2020 · 11/01/2017 22:03

Sadly no email from Habs.

We have NLCS tomorrow afternoon. Can anyone please advise what has been assessed so far?

What have the kids been asked to draw and do?

We have St. Helens 2nd round - any idea what is asked.

Well done to your little dd LilaGrace and good luck for the 2nd round at Habs. And yes it is more stressful for the parents.

LilaGrace · 11/01/2017 22:11

Mumstheword- think I said down thread that my DD did drawing, colouring and a story st NLCS. And wrote her name. Not v helpful but that's all I got from her Shock
Izzy I did work with my DD at home over the last year- probably about an hour a week in total spread over 2-3 days a week. She enjoyed it- and more so in the last 2/3 months- so it wasn't a chore but I found that sitting down little and often was more beneficial than longer chunks of time.

Dearesttwo · 11/01/2017 22:34

Thanks very much, LilaGrace

Butterfly3232 · 11/01/2017 22:38

We have no more this week but Habs second round end of next.
I did not tutor my daughter. She does go to a montessori 3 days a week and know that they cover the basic skills e.g colouring, drawing, cutting etc
My daughter attended NLCS today and she said she had colouring and drawing but no books!! On my visit to NLCS they did say that girls will be expected to colour, draw etc. This is exactly what came up... Well that's all my little daughter told me!

Threebusymummy · 12/01/2017 06:57

We are waiting to hear from Habs but worried there will be a no letter posted as we have not had an email.

Carpediem12 · 12/01/2017 13:11

We had NLCS this week. My daughter said she 'played'. She volunteered later that she was asked to draw, pick her name from a list and dress the baby. No books or colouring. Judging by what I have read here they obviously mix it up, possibly because they are assessing summerborn, winteborns etc. Good luck to all

shopgal9 · 12/01/2017 13:33

I called habs and asked, they said they have sent a letter and we should receive it today☹️ unfortunately they won't invite DD for the interview, one down two more to go x

LilaGrace · 12/01/2017 13:47

Shopgal, sorry to hear that 😩. Are they just sending letters rather than emails to those who haven't made second round?

shopgal9 · 12/01/2017 13:58

Lilagrace thanks Hun I was gutted but can't do anything about it, yes they are sending letters instead of emails if the child hasn't been called for an interview

LilaGrace · 12/01/2017 14:01

Shopgal- Just NLCS to hear from now then. Not sure I can last through they'll weekend without knowing!

Butterfly3232 · 12/01/2017 14:08

It would be nice if NLCS inform us all together either way when they do.
Waiting to hear is no fun!

shopgal9 · 12/01/2017 14:12

Yes LilaGrace and butterfly3232 only NLCS to wait for and really hope St. Helens give a positive outcome, I really hope NLCS tell everyone at the same time this waiting is torturous Confused

lunchboxtroubles · 12/01/2017 14:17

email yes and letter no is quite common. I think if it's your last contact with the school they like you to have it properly on headed paper, whereas email for yes is more reliable and time is of the essence to arrange 2nd round. Channing do it like that too.

LilaGrace · 12/01/2017 14:54

Makes sense lunchbox. Really hoping to hear from Channing by the end of this week 😬

Mummywow · 12/01/2017 20:05

We have Nlcs tomorrow so you won't hear yet as they are still on round 1!

Mummywow · 12/01/2017 20:05

Hoping she isn't asked to dress a doll as terrible at that!

IzzyFM · 12/01/2017 20:26

We also received a letter today shopgal Sad

Wishing you all lots of luck in progressing through the next round!x

LilaGrace · 12/01/2017 20:31

Sorry about that izzy. It's never nice getting a rejection, especially on behalf of your kids! 😞 Fingers crossed for the other schools.

mumteacher · 12/01/2017 21:01

Habs have always sent out letters to those not called back to round 2 and called /emailed for those invited back for round 2.

Nlcs will let everyone know of decisions either way at the same time.
