3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2017

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those parents involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas.

Thanks mumteacher- Wednesday isn't too long to wait!
Izzy- preference for NLCS and Habs like most people probably, but every time I visit a school I love it and change my mind! I'd be happy with any of them....
Mumstheword- is your daughter summer born? So far there seems to have been a lot of cutting and sticking, writing and identifying name, listening to a story and answering questions about it and drawing. Maybe some sequencing? Jigsaws? Where else are you sitting apart from NLCS and Habs?

IzzyFM · 09/01/2017 08:07

Thanks mumteacher, yes a little stressed but also accept the fact that out of 250 applicants, only 40 girls will be successful (16%). Not sure of the statistics at Habs boys but it's clear that my chances of them both sailing through is very slim... Especially as they haven't been tutored. Trying to keep my mind distracted so I don't overthink it.

Are you tutoring this year? How have the children got on so far?

mumteacher · 09/01/2017 21:40

I opened my own nursery so have only continued to help prepare the students I had earlier last year and haven't taken on so many for fear of not being able to give them my full attention.

All my students who sat south Hampstead got call backs for round 2.
All girls sat 7+ in November find themselves preparing for second round interviews as well.

St. Helens Northwood saw 7+ round 2 today.
Well done to those selected hope it went well today.

Yes my daughter is summer born we also did St Helens as well - have Putney High as well.

Has anyone done NLCS or Putney High?

2017madness · 10/01/2017 15:13

Our DD did NLCS. She came out quite bouncy and happy and said the teachers were nice. She said she didn't do any coloring or writing her name, but there was a lot of cutting and sticking. But I'm sure they change it up all the time.

Mumstheword2020 our DD did Habs as well and it was a similar experience. She said she carried out all the tasks but didn't speak at all "because the teachers were not smiling." She didn't get asked to spell anything and I thought they generally expected summer borns to recognise phonics but not necessarily spell. So hang in there. You never know, you may get good news tomorrow. Good luck at NLCS.

LilaGrace · 10/01/2017 15:20

My DD did NLCS too. She said there was some drawing and colouring, and a story. She said the rest was a "secret" Shock
Let's hope for some good news from Habs tomorrow- good luck everyone

LilaGrace · 10/01/2017 20:07

Habs round 2 emails appear to be out- DD has got an invitation to interview and a couple of other friends have too...

Butterfly3232 · 11/01/2017 09:57

Hi all
Does anyone remember how many girls get an invite to 2nd round at habs 4 plus?

LilaGrace · 11/01/2017 10:19

I think about half- so roughly 120? But not 100% sure...

shopgal9 · 11/01/2017 10:55

Habs I think around 80, that's what they had mentioned when we went for the assessment this Monday ....

LilaGrace · 11/01/2017 11:09

Oh really shopgal? That's great news then- so about a third of the girls from round 1 are called back.

shopgal9 · 11/01/2017 11:31

So true LilaGrsce fingers n toes crossed for my Dd n all other lil angels out there

Butterfly3232 · 11/01/2017 11:57

That's interesting!
Thank you
All the best to all going to 2nd round.

Mrs2013 · 11/01/2017 16:17

can someone recommend what type of puzzles we could use? any recommendations would be great. for the 4+. also describe what you would expect a kid to do at that age.

IzzyFM · 11/01/2017 18:34

Sadly no email from Habs Sad

Congrats LilaGrace on the good news, wishing your DD the best of luck in the 2nd round x

shopgal9 · 11/01/2017 18:46

Izzyfm same here Sad no mails from habs when did ur dd give the assessment mine went on Monday this week

2017madness · 11/01/2017 18:50

Same for us. Sad
Good luck to those who made it and hang in there to those that didn't. Hopefully we'll have better news from some of the other schools.

LilaGrace · 11/01/2017 18:57

Thanks Izzy. The admissions secretary made a point of saying they don't email everyone at the same time, so as long as you haven't had an email saying a definite no, you may yet get an invitation for an interview. Hang in there! X

Dearesttwo · 11/01/2017 19:09

does anyone know when NLCS will send the e-mails out for the second round?

LilaGrace · 11/01/2017 19:14

NLCS will send them by Tuesday 17 January- most probably Monday 16th. They are doing first rounds all week- inc Saturday- so won't be until after that.

IzzyFM · 11/01/2017 19:48

Thank you LilaGrace.

My daughter had her assessment on Friday shopgal. Let's hope for some news tomorrow x

shopgal9 · 11/01/2017 20:03
