Is it too soon for a September 2017 reception support thread?

Anybody about to embark on school applications and want to chat? I don't know about anyone else but I think I'll need a place to get advice / support over the next year!

DS will be 4 in January and I think will be very ready for school come September. Our catchment school is single form entry and very over-subscribed but we live quite close so fingers crossed we'll get in!

First school tours next week, quite looking forward to it!

Nothing about this year's allocation for my area. Spent some time looking at last year's though, not that it makes any real impact on this year, so much can change in terms of application numbers as you found out tiny.

BaxterStockboy · 12/04/2017 21:20

I can't find any of this info for any years on my local council site?

Probably just as well as it would only give me something else to stress about Grin

tinypop4 · 12/04/2017 21:42

It's a good thing Baxter, my stress levels about this have just doubled!!!

Dixie2016 · 12/04/2017 21:45

Joining in as I'm hugely stressed as today I found out I totally forgot to send any supporting documentation!! I put my application in last year and have no recollection of needing to do this but today I received a letter asking for three bits of paperwork. 😫
Obviously totally my cock up but I won't get the paperwork in time to submit before Tuesday so now I'm worried we won't get any of our choices.

ginforall · 13/04/2017 06:36

Found the stats for my authority for last year by googling 'school admissions in __ stats'. It wasn't on the council website directly.

That does sound stressful Dixie. Is it paperwork which will affect a decision like a letter from a vicar for a CofE school or just something the school will need in the future? It's a bit rubbish they have only just got in contact to ask for it, surely they knew a while ago.

Dixie2016 · 13/04/2017 10:45

It's council tax bill. Though I gave our customer reference on the application so I'm not sure why they need it. Admissions have said it won't affect the offer we receive on Tuesday but I'm still nervous.
It's rubbish that they have only just chased it up!

BaxterStockboy · 13/04/2017 12:19

dixie I'm sure it won't affect your application, surely they would have chased it up before now if it would. I can understand your nervousness though. Fingers crossed for Tuesday!

Trb17 · 13/04/2017 12:20

It's most likely just a random address check. I know some councils do this to avoid address fraud on applications so you might just have been one of the unlucky ones that got spot checked. Im sure it won't affect your offer.

BaxterStockboy · 13/04/2017 12:20

tiny you're right, it is probably a good thing. I'm already anxious enough without the additional worry of knowing the stats!

tinypop4 · 13/04/2017 12:32

Dixie don't fret- like a pp said it'll be a spot check they also do this in our area.

Here's a question: on this admissions data it says that the furthest child in category 5 (distance) allocated a place lives 1140m from the school. Does that mean you can reasonably assume that if you live closer than that you have been allocated a place, or is it not that simple? Siblings are admitted under a different category so they're not in this.

Charmatt · 13/04/2017 14:30

It sounds as if anyone in criteria 5 living closer than that should expect to have a place. In each criteria, distance is the bit that matters. I rank applications for our academy schools and distance is used to rank within a criteria; the closest first. The Council tax bill was a random address check - it won't affect your chances. Authorities have to have all information uploaded by tonight for the computer algorithm to be calculated and places allocated.

sarahj198 · 13/04/2017 16:59

Dixie it won't affect your application x places have already been allocated... in my authority they have anyway x schools got the lists Monday just gone.. so not fair they find out before we do x

CactusFred · 15/04/2017 17:11

Well folks, our notification date is tomorrow.

My friend tells me her email cam through last year at 1.05am...

I predict a sleepless night of refreshing email and then it arriving at 1.05pm!!

RatOnnaStick · 15/04/2017 17:53

Mine's not til after 4pm Tuesday. good luck everyone who gets theirs tomorrow.

BellaGoth · 15/04/2017 19:43

We're Tuesday, but it occurred to me at 3 o clock this morning that the decision has probably already been made - which has sent me all wobbly again. Confused

MrsMulder · 15/04/2017 19:50

Tuesday here too, our first choice school is closed until the following Monday though so stressing about accepting even though I know no one else can either!

MrsMulder · 15/04/2017 19:50

That's if I get first choice even!

AddALemon · 15/04/2017 19:53

Can I join? Im absolutely terrified about the school (and I have no idea why as all the schools round here are lovely!) we find out Tuesday, fingers crossed ds gets the school behind my mums house (even though im not in catchment, she backs onto the field)

CactusFred · 15/04/2017 20:45

Welcome Lemon. Biscuit

Let the nail biting commence!

ElizabethG81 · 15/04/2017 21:01

That's great cactus! You must feel so relieved

meditrina · 16/04/2017 08:52

I do think there need to be stricter rules for councils about when to make allocations public when the date falls on a Sunday (especially one followed by a Bank Holiday)

If thereMs going to be a national offers day, then it really ought to be what it says on the tin!
