4-5yr olds reception children - up to which number can they recognise?

So this is not getting into a competition or anything, lol, but we are looking into my Daughter's numeracy. She has a few difficulties but seems to be enjoying numeracy! Does not take after me! I do work with her on her numbers though. So she can count quite high - rote count and counting objects and can recognise numbers well now, in my opinion. She knows basic addition/subtraction and one or two more than and less than.

What number (Numerical, not written word) can your 4-5 year old, reception children recognise/read up to?!

I actually have no idea, she sometimes gets them mixed up eg will say 28 for 82 etc.

Reception 4 year old DD gets unreliable reading above 9,999, has no particular obsession with numbers over any other stuff, does very basic division and multiplication. All from school, we don't do any maths teaching, although chat when she asks us questions of course.

Read? 10. Count? Somewhere in the fifties or sixties I think.

The expectation is that 4-5 year olds are recognising numbers up to 20. Some Reception age children will understand the concept of numbers now and will recognise numbers up to 100+.

Ds can read prob up to 100 but as pp said, will occasionally say 12 is 21 and the likes. Generally he is good though. Can count as high as this to but occasional mix up past 50ish

To achieve the Early Learning Goal for the end of reception they should be able to recognise and order numbers to 20. Anything over that is a bonus.

Here is the goal:
Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to nd the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

Dd is 5 and in reception.
As far as I can tell she can count to 100 in single numbers and then 10/20/30/40 etc.

She can read up to 100, think the iPad has helped as she will say she's only got x percent left

iPad is used mainly for educational purposes and craft tutorials.

Recognises up to 200 counts to 300+ can do sums like 10+20+20+50+100=200

Mine (5 yr old twins in reception) can recognise up to 100 fairly reliably - neither are particularly 'into' maths and numbers but I do try and point out numbers in 'everyday' life (eg house numbers, in books, on tv, on signs etc) which I think has helped

IME most 4 and 5 year olds don't recognise numbers up to 100. About 30-40% don't make the Early Learning Goal by the end of Reception.

At that age, mine could recognise numerals up to 10, but was a bit unreliable. Could say how many items were in front of her if there were 5 or fewer. Could not count items at all.

DS is maths obsessed. So not a fair yardstick maybe. But he can count up to 10,000 if necessary (has never needed to). Can add/subtract and do basic multiplication and division. Can also tell the time. Starts Reception in September. In his Nursery class kids can all count up to 10 at least. I too have no idea where he gets it from. Both DH and I are academics but I have zero mathematical abilities.

DS is summer born in reception. He can confidently recognise every number up to 100 and would know what number was larger - we run a professional basketball club and DS watches a lot of games on TV with DH and DH tests him regularly on what the score is and what team is winning - DS thinks its fun which is nice.

Dd is 4 (not in reception yet) and loves the ideas of numbers, seems to grasp hundreds, tens, units and ideas of what is a big or small number in different contexts, comes out with things like "I've got 8 acorns. If I had two more, I'd have ten acorns" - but when counting she gets mixed up beyond 14, and isn't reliable at reading 13 vs 31 vs 33.

When ds was in reception he proved one morning he could count to 200 while walking there, and was working on counting in twos (house numbers helped but there were too many 23As and gaps!)

Mine aged 4 can count to 100, probably higher as he gets the concept.

Lightning McQueen's number is 95 and my 4 year old knows this in and out of context. She is in Scotland so not at school yet.

My ds started reception able to recognise numbers up to 20.
He is still in reception and in recent months he can recognise and read numbers in the hundreds (in theory to 999 as once he got the hang of it it's all the same). This has mainly been because of a recently discovered football sticker obsession and doing swaps with older boys at school. The sticker book goes up to about 700 I think.
I'm hoping to discover some similar magic to spark some interest and take off on the reading front!

I would say she recognises up to 999 well.

DD2 reliably up to 100. Loves numbers though!

I'm pretty sure DD would recognise numbers up to 100. I think she might recognise some up to 1000, but I am not sure, I think she would be a bit variable.

If she was writing, she'd sometimes get the numbers in the wrong order.
