SATS support thread for parents

As yr6 SATS start tomorrow, I thought it might be a good idea to start a support thread for parents to say how their DC are finding them.

DS has had a very chilled day due to the lovely weather: loads of water fights and he walked to the corner shop with his younger sister for the first time (with no adult) and loads of ice cream etc.

He went to bed very chilled but am sure the nerves will kick in in the morning!!

I always give end of year pressies anyway (I work in a school so I appreciate them!) but I'm also going to give DD's yr 4 teacher an extra present.
She's the maths co-ordinator in school and she asked for her class to be covered for the maths tests so that she could sit with DD because she has zilch confidence with maths.
That goes above and beyond imo and DD didn't panic because she had the teacher next to her.
I'll probably hug her and blub like a loon when I see her Grin

exLtEveDallas · 12/05/2016 17:08

Aw that's lovely rainbow Smile what a great thing for her to do

rainbowstardrops · 12/05/2016 17:10

Yes I thought so. So lovely and such a fantastic teacher too Smile

Ds is really not bothered if he did well or not today. He doesn't even seem to be acknowledging that they are over Confused. Still got in trouble for the usual stuff after he finished the paper. He will prob just get into more of the same trouble now they are over. Oh well no more complaints that he won't attempt his mock SATS papers YAY!

rainbowstardrops · 12/05/2016 17:28

I thought my DD would come home ecstatic that they're over too but she seems indifferent.
Doesn't help that she had Spanish this afternoon. She hates Spanish Confused
She's been on her iPod/laptop since she came in. I'm guessing that's her switching off and I'm totally allowing it today.

Peacefully8484 · 12/05/2016 19:45

My DD seems a lot happier but we have not talked about today's maths AT ALL! Dying to ask but am resisting as she clearly wants to just get on with her life! And it doesn't help anything to what it was hard or she didn't finish so I'm not asking!

littledrummergirl · 12/05/2016 22:14

Dd is really glad they are over. Her class are going to find out what play they are performing this year by watching the musical of it.
Much to look forward to before the end of the year. Grin

Our Y6 children are having a BBQ today then back to normal Monday

Feenie · 13/05/2016 07:28

No parties - Nicky says so!

www.tes.com/news/school-news/breaking-news/stop-after-test-parties-nicky-morgan-tells-primaries

Actually, she said it in November, so it's a bit mischievous for TES to still have it as breaking news.

Delighted it's come back to bite her on the bum though.

rainbowstardrops · 13/05/2016 09:51

If they don't want children to think tests are anything big then they shouldn't ram Sats down their throats from the minute they step foot in yr6!!!

ineedaholidaynow · 13/05/2016 10:25

She really is the fun police isn't she?

FranHastings · 13/05/2016 10:30

DD wrote lovely messages in cards for her teachers and took them some chocolates in. I don't think it's wrong to make people feel appreciated. Having been a teacher myself, I think I'd be pleased to get an expression of thanks.

mercifulTehlu · 13/05/2016 17:19

What a miserable moo NM is. Dd's class had fun activities every afternoon after each SATS paper, then a chocolate fountain after the last one yesterday and the whole school went for a day out today. Her teacher ( who is also the Head) was in school until 8pm last night sprucing up the school grounds, hammering in fence posts and repainting signs etc with a few parent helpers and their dc. The poor man must be knackered!

Peacefully8484 · 14/05/2016 13:21

Does anyone know what the current rules on the resits are? I've read somewhere that they will only apply to current year 5's. Also would it be re sitting just one part of it if didn't pass that paper? My DD was so worried about how she did in the maths- was very low on those days and struggling with a coldy fluey bug.. I'm worried she messed it up and can't face her having to resit it..

spanieleyes · 14/05/2016 13:41

Resits are only compulsory from next year, secondary schools can make children resit this year but it is their decision ( and I can't see many secondary schools rushing to do so!)
No one ( including the government!) has any idea how the resits will be organised!

Thethingswedoforlove · 14/05/2016 14:20

Anyone know when we can expect to get results for the yr6 sats? Do they usually come with reports right at the end of term?

Arkwright · 14/05/2016 14:25

It will be some time in July.

Thethingswedoforlove · 14/05/2016 14:31

Thanks Arkwright

Thethingswedoforlove · 14/05/2016 14:31

Will we all get them at the same time? Or might it vary between schools?

simpson · 15/05/2016 00:14

I think the school's all get them on the same date.

We have been told we will get them in the school report, along with teacher assessments for yr6.

However, I guess there may be a few that the school will ask for a re-mark on which might delay things.

DS has been very tired this week & was a bit (initially) upset over the last maths test. But he told his teacher the thought it was fine Hmm but I think he just needed food Grin as once he was home & fed he was a lot more upbeat & said it was easy! Time will tell...Smile

His school organised a picnic outside followed by a film & popcorn on Friday.

Yr2 SATS next week...(at my DC school).
