TWINS - Has Anyone in the South East Region Separated Their Twins at Primary School?

Hi all, I am interested in your stories as parents - have you put your twins through school where they started out together in the same class/reception class but then as they got through the years you decided to ask the school to put them into separate classrooms?

Also, are you based in London, Kent or Surrey?

I have twins myself and have been through this scenario. I am doing a research project for my degree and wanted to know how this experience had been for other parents. I would really appreciate your input!

Thanks, Nina.

Hello,
Asked for mine to be together in Reception (the school wanted to separate) (children best friends and very similar ability).
They were not just in the same class, but on the same table.
Zero problems.
New head Y3 and the he insisted on separating them (based on his belief that twins should be separated as a matter of course). I was furious. I told him all about the TAMBA research (class placement for twins on a case by case basis in consultation with parents). the previous class teachers told head there were no problems with my children being together, but he said he believed a blanket policy of separation was right.

One of my children was fine apart, but the other was slightly unhappy for the whole year.
I was so furious with the head, I have never really forgiven him.
Then he left the school after a year and yet another head came in. I showed him the same TAMBA documents and he agreed to put the children back together.
They have been together ever since.
They are much happier
The teachers say they are great together and that there are zero problems.

I don't think I will separate mine in primary but would maybe in secondary. I have not had any problems with them together . Teachers treat them as two separate
Individuals and never lump them together. They are very different and are sat on different tables and are in different sets for work etc. I sometime also prefer the convenience of them being together I.e class assemblies on the same day. So not two lots of time off work.

I have 11yo twins. They were only in reception for a couple of weeks so were together.

In year 1 they were put in separate classes - I wasn't asked, I would have preferred for them to stay together.

At the end of year 3 their teachers spoke to me and asked if I'd mind them being in the same class. No problems - y4 - y6 they were in the same class.

In secondary they are in the same form and have most of the same lessons together, this is because there was only them and 1 other child from their primary going to that school, so they kept them all together.
