For the teachers out there. How much does average point score of previous key stage 1 sats really matter?

my son did not get in on admissions day to his sisters school. his sisters school has average key stage 1 point score of around 17.5. we have got into a very nice local village school but its average point score is only around 16.3. Is this a huge concern?

Not a teacher, but what size of cohort are we talking about here?

My daughters school is a first school with 2 classes per year, 60 altogether. My son has also got into a girst school but one class of 30

It means its intake is likely to be less academically able. Or as PP says, if it has a really small intake its results will be very skewed by every child.

My sons is one class per year first school of 30. My daughters is also a first school of two classes per year, so 60 altogether.

There may be a few children with severe SEN and the average score will therefore be lowered. Or the class might be a low achieving cohort ( it does happen). Have a look at the three year trends to see if this is just a one off!

3 year trend is 16.2, 16.9, 16.3
