Singapore Maths - experience anyone?

How is it supposed to be taught? Surely the whole mixed ability class working at the speed of the slowest pupil cannot be right? No differentiation at all, all independent problem solving abilities squashed, all enthusiasm for Maths totally wiped out with children ending Y2 having done only numbers below 100???

I read the comments made in 2015 about Singapore Maths and feel compelled to ask if this programme is so marvellous why are employers such as John Lewis complaining that they have to teach new recruits basic maths and English skills? I have worked in schools for over 30 years and fail to see how this very expensive method is any better than the one it replaced.

I’d wonder why John Lewis were recruiting children tbh. My niece’s primary were a fairly early adopter of a Singapore based maths scheme. She’s just finishing year 10.

The children in the OP would be 13 now.

We use it. I can see that what it does do is really really embed the basics. That makes maths easier later.
