Am I the only one that doesn't see how this could be a good thing? All it would achieve is more schools being forced to academies and even then how would that ensure 100% attainment in the years to come?

Yes I think school should go back to having children recite tables as a regular exercise but to demand 100% seems unattainable? What if the school had children that were not capable of memorising data like that?

That's why we never send tables home to learn just as we don't send spellings ??

You don't speak for all schools.

Añd you do?

LePetitMarseillais · 06/02/2015 19:52

Nope but sorry I do know a shed load of parents with learning tables dumped onto them.I also think a lot of parents do it at home regardless even when not having the job dumped onto them. You only need to look at the tables threads on MN to see both happens- a lot!

I do think lots of parents do it at home because they feel confident that it is an area they can support their child ... it don't necessarily mean the school aren't actively doing the same.
I had a 5 year old tell me this week his dad says I'm teaching times tables "wrong" ... I'm not teaching times tables at all his son is still working on addition!
