Are these good outcomes for end of year 1?

All the info I can find is for end of year 2, which is obviously then end of Foundation Phase.

DS's school report is very good, shows improvement in all areas and some things I didn't even know he could do!

So anyway, he's working at Outcome 5 for Maths, 4 for Lit, Lang and Comms and 4 for Personal and Social development. Are these average? I have no idea, Google has flummoxed me!

From Learning Wales I have gathered the following:
Outcome 4 corresponds to NC Level 1
Outcome 5 corresponds to NC Level 2
Outcome 6 corresponds to NC Level 3

In England, as a rough guide, the expectation at the end of Year 1 is 1b/a. Therefore, it would seem your DS is exceeding expectations in Maths and meeting expectations in PSD and LLC.

They shouldn't really put these levels on the reports unless they include an explanation. They serve no purpose without context.

Our sheet said secure level 2 is average target for end of Y2. So unless your child is a prodigy I'm guessing they've used a different scale.

Thanks Bunnyjo , I've seen the corresponding NC levels in my searches but wasn't sure about the expectations as far as they were concerned. That's a big help, thank you. There were some concerns about below-average performance at the end of Reception, so to see him up at expected levels is brilliant. (Apart from Maths, which was good in Reception too, so he hasn't leapt through 2 levels, he's not that good! Grin )

BunnyJo is correct - in Wales we aim for outcome 4 at the end of year 1 and outcome 5 is the expected outcome at the end of year 2.
Our LA say that you should only award an out come in year 2 if you have finished it, i.e right at the top of the level/starting the next one, but not sure if your school has reported that if they say 'working at outcome 4/5'.
