New government guidance on supporting medical conditions

Hello all:

For those of you with children who require medication at schools or have ongoing medical conditions - new guidance has been issued from the DofE:

www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/306952/Statutory_guidance_on_supporting_pupils_at_school_with_medical_conditions.pdf

It is still a bit woolly in places:

e.g. on inhalers: asthma inhalers – once regulations are changed, schools will be able to hold asthma inhalers for emergency use. This
is entirely voluntary, and the Department of Health is producing a protocol which will provide further information.

but it does seem that the government is recognising that schools have a responsibility to ensure children missing school due to illness are kept in contact with their class and not allowed to fall behind. And rightly recognising that children with chronic conditions do have the right to be included on fieldtrips.
