Anyone struggling with reception places and waiting lists in Greenwich?

DS didn't get a place in any of the schools we applied for. Stupidly, I just applied for 3 schools in January as I thought I could homeschool him - but then circumstances changed and now homeschooling is not an option.

In April I asked to include him on the waiting list of further 3 schools. After months chasing the admissions office people, they finally told me DS's position on the waiting lists - of the 3 schools on the original application! And told me to wait for info on the other 3.

It's so frustrating. I know the LEA people must have lots of work, and loads of anxious parents just like me to deal with, but it doesn't make me less frustrated :)

He is on 6th on the waiting list for Halstow. Does anyone know if there is any real chance of a place? (I'm not very hopeful that 6 children will change their minds about the school or move away from London).

Please, any information will be very useful (handholding also accepted). Thanks!

It's been a few years since I was in Greenwich but I'd say it's a tough ask at this stage. We were number 8 on waiting list of less popular but nearby school a few years ago and position moved up and down by one or 2 places but we didn't t get a place. You may be lucky once term has started. Can you get on waiting list in other schools?

That's what I thought! I'm not counting on this, I'm hoping for a place on one of the other schools - the ones they didn't tell me his position! Just hoping.

Fingers crossed. Have you been offered anywhere? I'd get on the waiting list for anywhere you would consider. Quite a few schools in the area used to have a bad reputation but seem to be very good now

He was offered a place in Wingfield, but the ofsted looks rubbish. I accepted the place (as I was advised to do) but I don't know if I would send him there.

Stay on the waiting list for Halstow and others, even though you've accepted Wingfield. It's possible. And places come up during the year, too - don't forget that in any given year, a third to half of places will be siblings, so whilst people may not move when their PFB is YR, if it's DC2 or 3, they may well move for secondary, or a bigger house...

Also Greenwich has a high expat population due to proximity to Canary Wharf. People move quite a lot.
