LEH 7+ waiting list - does anybody know if that ever produces a place?

My DD is on the waiting list at LEH juniors. I am new to this whole process and wondered if this was a good thing or whether I shouldn't raise my hopes. Does anybody have any insight into how successful this is, or even how long they make the list as they are not advising where we are on the list.

To be honest...no school is going to admit that they got offers rejected....after all they have a certain reputation to keep. From my current school, I know of 5 DD's from my DS's class who all applied to a number of schools including LEH this year. All very bright girls performing at top of their class currently (independent pre-prep). Unsurprisingly (unless I am being told porky pies but doubt it somewhat) all of them got offers at LEH. 2 of the girls accepted Bute House, 1 took Guildford High, 1 took Wimbledon (as her brother was accepted at KCS) and 1 accepted LEH. So with this in mind, they have had 4 people decline their offers already. Based on this, I think the WL moves much more than the schools would like you to believe !

Wow! That's an eye opener rollerblades. Thank you & I will keep my hopes up. Unfortunately the registrar wouldn't tell me our 'new' position on the WL. Hmm

Another day when in a better mood, she did admit that last year the WL had moved 11-12 places.

Rollerblades, schools know this though and always over offer, so they know they can make 40 offers if they have 20 spaces, for example, so there is never a guarantee that the WL moves. I know some London schools that make 4x more offers than they have places.

Sanam2010...appreciate that the school over offers but in the case of a supposedly competitive and popular school surely doubling their offers (in the example you gave..40 offers for 20 places is way over the top. What if majority accept one year... ..there is no way they can take that risk ! They are better off with a waiting list and going through that once all offers are in. I think the over offer rate (from what I hear) is over exaggerated ! I am sure this is normal practice amongst many schools but the rate of over-offers is far lower at such popular schools especially if the school would not put up an extra class !

Rollerblades, that's the number a headmistress at one of the top London girls' prep schools gave me. But you're right they can get into problems if things change from one year to the next and i know of one prep school last year which had to withdraw Reception offers last year after "over over-offering" :-)

Yes - I know enough about the girls 7plus sector in SW London to say that some dd will have offers from both & not decided yet.

They will, I heard of a girl who was very gifted in performing arts and got offered GHS & LEH, went for LEH and then left after 1 year to go to a performing arts school. There is a tiny pocket of very gifted dd's who have a choice at 7plus from these schools plus West London - Bute House. Well done to your dd for being top of the list!
