Teachers and mobile phones in lessons

Another mum at school mentioned this to me, about the TA's phone apparently getting texts during the Y5 class. I asked my dd and she said oh yes, both the TA and the teacher are on their phones in lessons.

Now, I am not sure about the true extent of their phone use, but it has made me wonder if schools have policies about teachers' phone use in class time, or if there should be.

Littlefish - mostly we are not allowed to either. I do use mine at times though, with permisson, such as taking photos for the school prospectus and websites, etc.
I suppose in the same way that an outside photographer might come into school, using their own cmaera equipment.

I did go on one training course re iPads however and the whole of fondation did use their phones. They had the 2Simple app for observations - you photograph, add names and link to the EYFS statements and then email report to print out as a report. The school were in the prodcess of investing in iPads thugh, so that agai will no dubt have stopped now.

The app is great from what I can gather though - for those with iPads at school. And it now links to the KS1 and 2 curriculum statements, inc those for the new 2014 schemes.

Mine is in my pocket on silent when I'm at work (TA). The other TA in the classroom has hers in the cupboard and occasionally we hear it beep - she's got some personal stuff going on and goes into the staff-only area in the classroom and messages back with her phone still in the cupboard - the children would have no idea what she was doing. The class teacher has never had her phone out while I've been at work. Any teacher openly using their phone in the classroom during lesson time would be frowned upon for sure.
