year 5 studying Stormbreaker and watching the movie in class

Hi, I was not educated in the UK, so I may be being a bit silly. DD and her year 5 friends are studying HOrowitz' Stormbreaker and watching it in class. It seems that they will finish the movie before they finish the book. I find it a bit depressing that they have to rely on a Hollywood blockbuster to study the book. Maybe, I am just too old...

We use the book and the film and compare and contrast the two.

I've done "Stormbreaker" with Y5 and it's a great unit. However, we watched the film at the end of the unit to compare and contrast. I'd be a bit Hmm about using the film before finishing the actual book, but perhaps their teacher has a good reason for that...or compares bit by bit.

I was worried they were being a bit lazy. A lot of the kids in the class are slow readers, so maybe they are showing the movie to help them a bit? Then again the movie is different from the book (according to ds).

The film's quite different, and in some ways more gentle than the book, on the basis even dd2 who is very sensitive enjoyed it.
Dd1 (who had read the book) found the film a bit frustrating when it deviated from the book.
