DS 7yo is struggling with reading. School does not offer any type of extra help, and he is losing confidence as he falls further behind his classmates. I'd like to find someone called a reading specialist perhaps? that would be able to work with him one-on-one and teach him strategies for reading. Trying to find someone who can do more for him than I can -- someone who is actually trained in teaching reading.

Any suggestions? We're in central London, fwiw.

thank you!

I'd recommend "Leaders are Readers" (google it for the website). I don't believe they are in Central London though. Edgware and Muswell Hill last time I checked. They do group sessions on Saturday mornings. I've heard of them doing 1-2-1 too but don't really know about that.

My DD1 did it at 4 for a year and reads very well, free reader at 6 but she loves books. DD2 tried it but she wasn't ready for it. As long as your child is ready and you put in the extra work at home, they provide an excellent foundation in reading IMO.
