Only asking and I know its only one piece of work but I cant see how she got the level she got at the end of her last year as this is very much her usual writing, they said she had gone up 2 sub levels in 6 weeks, I personally didn't agree but would be interested to see what your thoughts are.

Many thanks in advance.

My DD is level 2c, it's hard to say on a short piece. I suppose DD was at this level a year ago when she started year 1?

Galena · 14/09/2013 09:45

I'd reckon on 1c or 1b.

Sorry, I'd say it is only one piece and also a very short piece so it is not possible to give you a level. However I say it does look like much of the work my level 1 writers produce.
I can say I can see:
Some evidence of basic punctuation, but lots of capital letters in the wrong place or missing at the beginning of sentences.
Some HFW spelt correctly and use of phonetic spellings
Communicates meeting through basic phrases (but repetitive sentence opening of I)

If she was in my class I would be targeting accurate and consistent punctuation and more varied sentences.

If the school say she has progressed in the last six weeks do they mean over the summer holiday? Is the difference because different schools / teachers have assessed her? Are they using the same criteria. Is APP used or something different?
Sorry lots of questions, but they might explain the amount of movement over a holiday.

Sorry no they said at the end of last year she had gone from 1b to 2c in 6 weeks, shes 7 in year 3, I just can't see her being at 2c, this is usual work for her, she mixes up b and d still in that work it says about dogs barking loudly. Her reading is still 1b personally I think her writing is similar.

About 1c/ maybe 1b on seeing other work.

I agree that 2c is optimistic!

I am not a teacher but I would have said that was early yr1 level, no idea what NC level that is but I think it is basic and not actually that easy to work out what she is trying to say.

Another one who is not a teacher but my DD's writing is levelled a 2C and that does seem over inflated to me.

Have you had her level from her new teacher yet?

littlemiss06 · 14/09/2013 11:52

Not yet but will be interesting to see what she thinks, thanks all
