Pleeease help me with some ideas for assemblies on the theme of 'planting hope'

I need to write a week's worth of assemblies on the theme of 'planting hope' and I just can't find anything. Saturday is slipping past and I am still sitting here at the computer!
I need a bible story, but the one about seeds falling on fertile ground isn't exactly about hope. I also need a good story about new life sprouting out of seemingly dead, dry seeds (= never give up hope?)
I would be very grateful for any ideas.
Also a suitable hymn.

Would it help if I said the biblical meaning of hope is actually "confident expectation"?

Great ideas for other weeks ... it's just that, following our CW plan, this week has to be specifically about the concept of hope as a seed.

Very briefly, it is about a man in a war torn devastated country who very quietly sets about planting literally thousands of trees and eventually changes the landscape.

Cairngorm, what a brilliant idea! My DH is French and it is his favourite book, but I hadn't made the link. No time for shopping... maybe youtube?
