Weve just booked a holiday in May where I will be taking DS out of school for 5 days...someone has just mentioned there is a new government policy that you are NOT allowed now to do this or you will be fined.

Is this right, I cant find anythign onthe internet!!!! Confused

Thanks prh47bridge but how many of those fines were for people who persistently fail to send their children to school rather than taking one holiday in an academic year?

The data collected by the government doesn't tell us that I'm afraid.

I bet the majority are the former. It is an interesting debate.

Think it depends on school... Ours will automatically grant 2 weeks without us even giving a reason! So long as attendance is ok. They even start the school year highlighting which weeks to avoid etc

We've been told by our Headteacher that it will be £120 per parent per child or any holiday. That seems ludicrous to me and I'm not sure how it will be enforced. She said she had been led to believe it wouldn't be up to her but she's not sure yet. Expecting both parents to pay is stupid.
