How can I find out distance of places offered?

This is just curiosity at the moment as DS will not be starting until Sep 14, so I assume we will be starting the process at the end off this year.

I have a school in mind I know I would like him to attend but it's a very popular RC school, excellent results and a one form entry so I would imagine there is a bit of a battle for places.

We live in the next village so not ridiculously far away, so assuming he fits all the other criteria - practising catholic family, resident in the parish, how do I find out how likely he would be to get a place based on distance to the school?

I see a lot on here where people know how far away a child lived from the school in the last place offered and I don't know how I would find that out.

Check your LA website it should have a report on how places were allocated last year which will give you a guide though things change from year to year Smile

I found a guide to primary admissions on my LA website, v comprehensive and included all their criteria for 2013 admission, and a table with each school including distances for the previous year where applied. Things may change over the year but its worth a look.

My LA publishes this info in its admissions brochure for secondary (but not for primary). So you may find it there.

Alternatively you could ask the school (who are likely to have a good feel as to whether you might get in) or the LA.

Thanks all, I found last years booklet on the Kent website, the information is part of that.

There were 51 applications for 30 places last year and furthest distance was slightly more than my house so I'm a bit more hopeful now.

Very useful!
