In Year Admission - Which time of year were you offered a place?

I'm hopeful that there might be some movement on the waiting list based on the fact primary admissions have just been allocated.

I'm wondering at the possibility of parents whose younger Child wasnt allocated a Reception place at their preferred school, will then remove their elder child who is already at that preferred school, in order both children can be at the same school when youngest starts Reception.

Because apart from emigration or job relocation reasons, I'm not convinced any parent will remove their child from this school. It's the only Outstanding Ofsted infant school in the town and parents actually commute their children in here from neighbouring towns and villages :/

A place was offered last September and the waiting list does seem to vary, as I used to phone regularly, noticing it went from 7 on the list, down to 5, back up to 6 and is now at 2.

Does anyone know if it's possible to see the admission criteria under which the place was offered to someone's child last September?

And by the way, it is my closest school, I didn't move here because it was that Ofsted grade, I'm a stranger to the town and did no research on schools whatsoever, I didn't even know such a thing as In Year Admission existed, I thought it would be a simple transfer from one school to the next (how wrong could I have been! :(

Snow, have they found a place for you in another school?

Impossible to say what the answer to this is, really. It's a kind of how-long-is-a-piece-of-string question. People can only move their older child to the younger child's school if there is a space for them there, otherwise they will stay where they are? If they are not happy with the allocated school for younger child, they may decide to go on the waiting list for your school instead and wait for a place to come up there?

Are you aware of many siblings who have not got a place at your preferred school?

I don't know if you are allowed to know the admissions criteria under which the place was offered last Sept. but I don't see how it is helpful to your case unless you believe a mistake was made?

Doctrine, no, there's no places in Year 1 left anywhere at present in this town.

Annh, I'm just curious to hear from people who were eventually offered a Year 1 in year admission, what time of year they were offered it, in case there's a distinct pattern, ie they were mostly offered a place around time of primary allocations, on which case I can be hopeful this is when there's most movement on the waiting lists.

Snow, if there's no other place for your DC, the chances are there's no place for older brothers and sisters to shift to.

The LA have to offer you a place within "a reasonable time". If they haven't offered you a place at all you need to pressurise them. They do have powers to create a place if all the schools are genuinely full.
