school takes 90 reception children. is there any chance for movement from september?

we did not get the school we wanted - catholic, oversubscribed. how likely is it for one pupil resigning/ moving etc? we are on a waiting list. we are in London. just thinking whether people experienced movement in class throughoutt primary years. thank you.

Very likely.

There is likely to be some movement before term starts.

Then in the first week of term it isn't unknown for a pupil or two to not turn up.

And in my DS's London primary class, 8 places had changed by the end of Yr1.

I think it is possible, however, that places are a bt more stable in oversubscribed catholic schools.

What number are you on the list?

not sure yet. will know next week. but I am thinking of moving closer to school, hope in summer. so this will change my position (hopefully)?

my kids go to a popular Catholic school. There has been very little movement in the five years they have spent there. Maybe one child every couple of years in each class. Obvs I don't know about before they started reception.

There are so many factors that influence movement.

We're also in London and I'm aware of several families already being moved out of the area or even out of London due to the universal credit and how very hard it is for low income families who don't have secure social housing to live anywhere in London any more.

Our area traditionally has a lot of movement, which is evident in KS2, although no-one has left my dd's Y1 class for over a year. Having said that the other Y1 class has had 4 children leave and join.

If you're top of the waiting list for a 90 admission school, there's a fairly good chance you'll get a place I would say.

Two out of sixteen didn't appear the first morning of dtd's tiny but very popular rural school, and over the seven years only eight were there continuously.

Not sure what impact moving nearer might have, or who you need to flag it to - probably both the school and the LEA to be on the safe side.

Depends on the school and also what the other schools are like nearby. DS goes to an oversubscribed RC school with 60 intake. It's the only rc in the area so noone gives up their place. All infant classes have 30 per class.
