I'm biting my nails off here!

Sorry that went a bit screwy at the end. Should have said 'I have heard that if you're willing to wait until Y2/Y3 you may get a place as a lot of people move out or go private in the mean time.'

aufaniae · 18/04/2013 21:08

I was waiting for both DS's school results and also the imminent arrival of baby DD.

DD won! Born yesterday, 3:12pm, 9lb. Back home already, yay!

Fingers crossed for a good result tomorrow too!

Good luck to everyone still waiting :)

Well we didn't get any of our 3 choices (that's all we are allowed to do). Our first choice is 400m away and has never been oversubscribed before. Dd already attends pre school there. Phoned the LEA and she missed out by 30m and would be next to be offered a place. Hopefully she will be top of the reserve list. I know a few who got in our first choice didn't get in their first choice so fingers crossed for some movement.

We have got an Ok school a mile away but it's messed up our childcare arrangements completely. We are going to have to split the children who currently go to a Childminder together, have to pay for one of them to have a longer day as I pick them up at the same time and try to drop my hours at work as I can't drop DD off at before school club until later than she currently goes to Childminder. I can't really afford to lose hours and pay for extra childcare but not much choice. Going to appeal but not holding out much hope.

Congratulations aufaniae

Lozario · 18/04/2013 21:38

aufanaie congratulations! That must have kept your mind off things!!

Ok it's possible that I've made a mistake with my 101st place on 1st choice waiting list. Remember I said the guy told me that "wasn't bad"? Well he also said something about it being a 90 entry school so it wasn't bad being 101. So am wondering if I misunderstood and the 101 includes the 90 that got in. Either way I'm not asking again until 2 weeks time, seems like that will be a more realistic view then!!!

Lozario, that is crazy!

I'm at no.47 on the list for my first choice - which I am amazed by, fully expected to be 90th or similar.

If it's a 90 form entry then 101 isn't quite so bad. At this point lots may not have yet accepted/declined plus everyone who listed it above their actual allocation will be automatically on the list.

Lots of people will probably be quite happy with their allocation - or happy enough that they won't opt to move in a couple of months time or after term starts. If it was a 30 entry then it would be a very tricky one.

Mine has a 45 entry this year so I'm hoping 47th will be good enough.

ExasperatedSigh · 18/04/2013 21:51

Congratulations aufaniae :) Lovely news indeed.

Surprised that some of you know whereabouts you are on waiting lists already - all our comms have explicitly said DO NOT CALL, THERE IS NO POINT before x date. My first, second and third choices have WLs of 83, 100 and 42 respectively...will be interesting to see exactly where we are among those numbers.

kungfupannda · 18/04/2013 22:04

Congrats aufaniae.

Two hours to go here - assuming the word on the street is correct!

I am starting to feel faintly sick. Might be time to start on the wine - I've held off so far!

Lozario · 18/04/2013 22:21

kungfu get stuck in love! Wine

Molliemouse · 18/04/2013 22:26

Kungfu - I started on the wine some time ago...

But am drinking very, very slowly to try and make it through to midnight in one piece!

However, I am not too confident about the Bristol website situation. I've just been on the website and it says information will be posted online on Monday. It is sticking to the emails from 9am tomorrow story. Hope for your sake that BathNES is different.

kungfupannda · 18/04/2013 22:27

I'm watching the Lord of the Rings extended edition box-set just for something to do. I'm going to play a drinking game with myself - every time someone pouts sadly I'm going to down a glass.

Bloody DP is working away this week so no-one to stress at.

DorisIsWaiting · 18/04/2013 23:00

Am going to bed now as I'm convinced it was 8 ish when the emails came through last time. (I also need to be able to hold a coherent conversation tomorrow as dd2 has a dr's appt!).

Fingers crossed all round

morethanpotatoprints · 18/04/2013 23:15

aufanaie.

I was keeping eye open for your announcement. Many congrats. i remember previous posts when you were a few months. Hope you and baby are well

As you all were.

kungfupannda · 18/04/2013 23:15

Yes, I'm flagging too. Forgot to put the wine in the fridge so I am still stone-cold sober!

Might go to bed and read and see if I'm still awake at midnight.

kungfupannda · 19/04/2013 00:01

Website open. Refresh button being pummelled...

kungfupannda · 19/04/2013 00:03

He's in! He's in!

I'm actually shaking a teeny bit.

Holding out for good news for Mollie and Doris too!

Molliemouse · 19/04/2013 00:11

Thanks Kungfu. Nothing happening on Bristol site so it's to bed for me. I am so pleased for you. Hope you sleep well now.

Snazzynewyear · 19/04/2013 00:58

Yay kungfu!

Galena · 19/04/2013 06:40

Congratulations aufanaie and kungfu

JenaiMorris · 19/04/2013 06:59

Coolio, kungfu :)

kungfupannda · 19/04/2013 07:07

Any news for anyone else?

Just found out a friend got their third choice which they really didn't want. Something a bit odd must have gone on in terms of application numbers, as she applied for one of the two popular schools in the next town along from our school. The nearest of those is usually slightly less popular than ours - it's usually second choice for the children who apply for ours as a first choice- and she's much closer to that one than we are to ours, which would suggest that for some reason her first choice had a surge of popularity and some of the children who would normally have gone to ours have applied there.

Which would explain us getting a place - I was pretty resigned to appealing/going on waiting list.

Incidentally, now that it's over, anyone on this thread who's appealing do let me know if I can do anything to help. I'm a criminal lawyer, not an education lawyer, but I'm pretty good ad drafting/editing formal documents, so if you need anything tweaked/checked, send me a pm and I'm happy to do what I can.

DorisIsWaiting · 19/04/2013 07:16

Yay! First (and only) choice. With siblings but was still dicey due to children in catchment getting priority.

What a relief not quite sure what to do with myself now it's been an emotional week!

Well done Kungfupanda, and fingers (still) crossed for anyone else (still) waiting!

Lozario · 19/04/2013 07:29

Well done kungfu and doris!!

Letsgetreal · 19/04/2013 07:41

Wel, we got our letter which basically said "sorry you didnt get into your top 5 choices but we've given you a place at your 6th"......

No mention of why we didnt get into any of the top 5, details of what catagory we were in, distance from the school measurement, details of what catagory and distance the last accepted child was or anything.

Obviously we are going to appeal but at the moment we have no facts to assess what went wrong!

So my question is (and Ill post this in the webchat forum as well) how do we insist on the data we need so that we can amke an informed decision? What rights/statutes do we invoke against the council to get this information?

Any help appreciated.
