We're on this quest too squarepbbles. We play a game in the car where you have to name an object, and then have to take it in turns to think of a different word to describe it. Kinda like a more complex I spy. So eg: 'Sea' words could include, shimmering, glittering, roaring, crashing etc...
DD loves it and hasn't cottoned on yet that we're just trying to do it to increase her use of descriptive words! :)

Writing angry letters of complaint always made my year 6 classes eagerly reach for the thesaurus. They could complain to you for serving them Brussel sprouts, complain to their teacher about homework etc.

Many thanks,I could get them to do the car thing going round all 5 of us and see who can keep going the longest.

They'll love the angry letters too.
