Can anyone suggest a good book about space for a 7 year old girl?

Please? DD is really interested but nothing I can find in the library seems to be hitting the mark as its either for older children or dismissed as being for babies. Don't want to spend lots on the wrong book but do have some amazon vouchers I could use.

I need something clear but engaging and with a good section about the moon which she asks me endless questions about Hmm .

The Usborne 'See Inside' series are popular with my own DCs and also my Y4 class. There's a See Inside Space one that might be worth a look.

My DD is 6 and has the Pop up Pullout Space Book - It only has a 1 pop up which is of the solar system so it can be see in 3D and Pull out tabs for all the planets etc. It doesn't have a extra info on the moon but DD does have another book which covers the moon in depth however this is at her Dad's house and I can check with him tomorrow.

Have you thought about writing to the British space agency?! When I was younger (ok, ages ago!) I was very much into space and wrote to the BSA and NASA as a child and got LOADS of stuff in return and the headed paper letter was my prize and joy!

I was about to suggest NASA and the Space Agency. Maybe also contact the international space station.

The Usborne See Inside Space book is excellent and includes pull out charts that you can take stargazing. I've learned loads from it and I'm 43! (In case it looks babyish!)

I don't know of one. However as I'm in the business of creating children's books its been on my 'want to do' list for a long time.

I think author Tony Mitton wrote one if you put his name into Amazon?

It's a proper children's story but one of the main characters is a computer and there are lost of colour pictures and bits about planets and space and stuff. I think I got this recommendation off another thread a while back.

The rather idiotically named 'WOW! Space' is probably my space mad DS's favourite (along with wow! Earth, Wow! Human body). Also there is a DK guide that he likes. The usbourne see inside pop up is good, but doesn't have as much substance.

He also loves Brian Cox's Wonders of the Solar System and Wonders of the Universe. Even though they are adult books, the text isn't particularly difficult (not too hard for a 7yo to read themselves) and the pictures are marvelous

Dd1 got the dk space, a children's encyclopedia for christmas and I'd really recommend it. Plenty of content on the moon :)

Thank you I didn't expect so many replies so quickly.

I'll look at all your suggestions and definately suggest she writes off to British Space Agency, NASA etc. Maybe they can answer her endless questions about the bl**dy moon. Imagine being woken at 3am as i was this morning to be asked

Mummy if the moon does not have much gravity would it be a good place for kangaroos to live and would they need less food as it would be easier to bounce?

Mummy the moon has no water and air so why does it have seas?

Mummy if you get out of bed and look carefully you can see the whole moon even though only some of it is lit up at the moment

mummy mummy mummy wake up...........

Perhaps I'll get her to write to them

Usborne books are often good. The Magic School Bus series is very American in tone but full of detail and humour. My nearly 7 yo adores them, and the space and dinosaur versions are good.

Aah, she sounds like my son! He's writing to NASA to explain why he thinks humans will be able to live on Mars one day, and the things they need to do to bring this event nearer. sunnyday has given me hope that he might actually get a reply!!

He desperately wants to be an astronaut, and helpfully came up with the 'comforting' statistic that there is a 1 in 20 chance of dying on a space flight to allay my fears Confused.
