DS in year 4 has just said he doesn't want to put his hand up and get too many things right for fear of looking like a goody two shoes, what do I do?

Said son twin 1 is a twin and reasonably bright boy albeit a slight daydreamer with not a lot of drive. His twin is also bright(zilch between them imvho)and apparently g&t or he is bring sent on some g&t courses whatever that means. He is very driven and always seems to be slightly above twin 1. A lot of this is due to his attitude imvho but it does affect twin 1's confidence.

Twin 1 was upset about the courses as they look like fun(days off school and are in things that interest him),to be frank in a lot of ways I'd say he was brighter but he doesn't pull his finger out iykwim and is very quiet, well behaved and small.Like a shadow really.

Anyhow he's started applying himself a bit more recently(woo hoo),putting his hand up and got a certificate in assembly from the head teacher, several house points etc.So on congratulating him and saying how proud I was he said the above.Sad

He is a far more social boy and likes his mates who are important to him. However I'm worried as he has complained of being bored, work too easy and I'm worried that if he does continue to keep a low profile due to peer pressure he won't get stretched. He is the sort of child who old easily fall between the cracks.

Want to sort this now before it becomes entrenched.

What do I say?
