Moving to the UK / Essex Primary School admissions

I wonder if anyone can help me. We're moving back to Essex in July of this year and want to know if we can apply for a place at the local primary school in our preferred area before we arrive in the UK. The kids have British passports and we have an address where we will be living with my mum but i've been told to get a mid year place (so that the kids can start school in Sept) we have to apply in May - i'm just not sure if we actually have to be in the country or if an address where we'll be living once we arrive is sufficient. Has anyone got any idea?? Thanks.

This seems to suggest you can apply in advance in Essex. They ask for the date of moving and evidence that you are going to become resident at the address you are quoting.

I work in an Essex primary and we have a child starting on Monday who on submitted the paperwork today,so there's no rush, unless the school in question is oversubscribed, when you prob want to get on the list Asap. The admissions team at county are very helpful,so call them. They'll be able to answer your question and will know, or be able to find out if school is full.
