DD couldn't give two hoots about clothes and fashion, but they're doing a fashion show in Y6 and they all have to dress up from the 50s, 60s, 70s or 80s. She lives in baggy jeans, hooded tops and apart from her school shoes she has only trainers to wear. She won't wear a skirt or a dress.

Any ideas please.

I suggest you send her in her favourite jeans and say it's grunge!

Wasn't grunge from the 90s? Grin

sew some flowers on jeans and hoody, flowers in hair, flower power 60's

or leggins, bright top, leg warmers (cut toe of socks), 80's

Drainpipe skinny jeans - definitely had some of those in the late 70s early 80s... showing my age... - hooking the zip up with a coathanger whilst wriggling on the bedroom floor - the things we did for a night out!!

Yes, grunge started mid-late 80s even though it took a while to hit the commercial mainstream, so you should be able to work with that.

Make sure she can reference the 80s grunge bands in case of doubters.

I'm relieved I got the dates right though admit I hadn't even thought about it!

Personally I loathe any school activity that needs me to do sewing.

Brilliant ideas! Thanks. I bloody hate dressing up days at school. Angry I find them such a pain. I recycled the Tudor outfit for Victorian day last term.

In fact DD loves sewing so I might be able to get her sewing flowers on her clothes (if flowers aren't a step too far for her). Will Google grunge fashion too.
