We're hurtling towards this and I'm dreading it.

My son is starting school, 2 bulge classes, school don't really want to take him, no statement yet, no extra help.

ALl I really want is for someone to tell me it's OK if I don't send him, but everyone I talk to tells me I have to try.

I'm dreading sending him.

My DD (year younger) is going and I have no issues at all with her going to school. Just DS.

He has a diagnosis of HFA, but no statement / no extra support at present.

:-(

I had similar concerns about DS2, he was undiagnosed but we were fairly sure he had asperger's/HFA - he got a disgnosis of Asperger's when he was about 8. He settled in school really well, he had a few issues over the years at primary school - usually when he had supply teachers and his normal routine was disrupted etc. He got all 5s in his Y6 SATs and is now 14 and about to start his GCSEs having got the highest grade possible for Maths this year (teacher assessed since they don't do KS3 sats now) - an 8A. He has a few issues in secondary school but mostly does really well. He has some friends at school but no desire to see them outside of school etc.

Hit send before I was ready!

I would suggest giving school a go, I can recommend the book Martian in the playground - I shared it with his teachers and it really helped them understand him. For some reason our village seems to have a concentration of ASDs in a school of 100 children there were around a dozen diagnosed with asperger's/HFA/Autism a few years ago so they weren't unfamiliar with it.
