We are moving back to UK next year.

Dd2 has an Aug birthday. Can she start reception after Easter, so closer to her 5th birthday? Or does she have to start in Sept ages just 4?

She doesn't have to start until the term after she turns 5 but unless you move to Scotland she will miss reception and go straight into year 1.

Given her late birthday, you have the right to defer her entry into school during her reception year; e.g she could start in Jan, or after Easter. What you can't do, which is what goingtoofast is referring to, is defer a year (basically put her in the school year below where she would be the oldest not the youngest). Talk to the school (some are fine with it, some kick up a fuss)

Right, I get it.

I wouldn't want her to skip YR completely. I would just prefer she started YR in Jan, or even better, after Easter, when she will be 4.8.

Thx
