It seems to come around soooo quickly.

So far my class have done Music from different countries (a mix, not one country in particular), Music from the days the children in my class were born, Theme tunes from kids movies. I'm now running out of ideas!

Does anyone else have to do this or just have any nice ideas for a theme? Thankyou

Olympic themed some how?

TheMysteryCat · 11/07/2012 21:50

i absolutely loved this when i was at primary school.

we had to draw animals as they came up in the music and explored why the elephant's piece sounded like that etc.

still sticks with me now and still one of my favourites.

Saint Saens

Weather theme?

National anthems.
Different instruments - can the children work out which instrument it is?
Calm music (I use Chill Out Classics) to help a calm end of term.
Pop Classics - challenge to name the artists

Thanks. Grin

I've used San Saens before, but not for years so I like that one. And it's also made me think about Holst and his planet's Suite too. They would be easy to make a powerpoint about the animal/planet to show at the same time too. Grin

I'd thought about Vivaldi and his seasons and try and time it to be my turn (by swapping with other staff) for the weeks when a new season starts.

Rain! Singing in the Rain, raindrops are falling on my head......sorry, bit basic, but could work Smile.

Or Sea.......La Mer Debussy, Britten Sea Interludes, Elgar Sea Shanties, Oh I do like to be beside the seaside....... or you could go for story-telling music, eg Sorcerer's Apprentice Dukas, fab piece, fab story.

M People - what Have You Done Today to Make You feel Proud - could tie in with olympics /personal achievements?

NonnoMum · 11/07/2012 23:21

National Anthems is a great idea - play the ones that are going to get played alot over the Olympics - Australia, US, China etc...

And play them the second verse of the National Anthem, so they never get caught out let Cheryl Cole...

I'd go with Olympics theme.

Song for the olympics: www.songsforteaching.com/jackhartmann/olympicgames.htm

It's so easy - have the kids wear white t-shirts and shorts/ trousers/ leggings and run in slow motion to the theme song from Chariots of Fire. The parents will all get it and adore it.

Chariots of Fire:

You can then have children sing national anthems/ or short foreign songs and hold up different flags.

And if you want to bring in a hymn - then Jerusalem (also inspiring Chariots of Fire) is an obvious choice:

How about this Olympic theme from 2004 Olympics-

And here are the lyrics if you want to join in.

Get each member of staff to choose a favourite song that they would have sung in assembly when they were at school? (Obviously more interesting if your staff members are varying ages!)
