DD didn't pass her yr1 phonics check, ds1 is severely dyslexic - link or not?

We've known that dd doesn't find reading as easy as we'd expect - although she began to read early and works in a class with 80% year 2 children, her phonics, blending and segmenting are awful. I smell a rat and suspect she's going to need further investigation - am I getting it out of proportion?

The type of assessment used in the phonics check is used by Eps to identify possible reading. The fact this check has identified a possible issue early and the school should put early support in place. If when she is retested there is still a problem then it may be necessary to investigate further.

Mrz, thank you ! Am a little bit annoyed as I mentioned my concerns at the start of yr1 - they haven't done anything afaik. Dyslexic ds1 in year 6 of same school. Grr. Big thank you for calm rational voice Smile

I would ask them what they are going to do in light of the screening check.

good plan.

The result of asking what they're going to do seems to be "teach letters and sounds and Read Write Inc." welcome to 2005, school.
