i have been looking at prep schools in Oxford/ Abingdon. How does Oxford high junior school compare to Chandlings /Manor prep and St Hughs. Oxford high is a lot cheaper than the others.

I only know OHS juniors and Chandlings buy both
are very different!
Chandlings is set in gorgeous countryside, they offer many
extra curricula activities such as horse riding.
They have a good reputation and will offer lots of support if your
child needs it.
OHS is cheaper with more pressure on results. Less chance
if extra curricula opportunities, their sites are tiny,
I would think it would depend on your child-if pressure
is what suits your child then OHS it is! But Chandlings
should offer a balance!
Have heard good things about Manor too.

Have posted thoughts on Chandlings on a different thread. To add to previous comments: Setting is great, extra-curricula is good (although horseriding is so-so by the time they get changed etc.. the amt of time they get is limited). If your child is above average bright and good at Sport then they will flourish. If they are average they will do ok. If they struggle a little then good luck. A lot of talk and very little action played out over a long period of time. Seen it happen with a lot of kids and parents who end up moving on. The new Head seems like she is from a bygone era and is pretty much invisible. I really would suggest looking at the Manor which has always been consistent. Chandlings is on a downward route right now. Over time it will move back to where it was but tough to recommend it right now.

Hi! I went to The Manor Prep (I'm now 42) and it has always been a wonderful school. I would bite my own hand off if there was a chance I could get the money together to send my son there. Go and have a look - I know people with children there now and they love it.
