Where to move to - Missenden, Amersham, Kings Langley?...- for best chance of getting DS into reception Sept 2012

Hi, I am currently living abroad but moving back to the UK in the summer. My DS will need to start Reception in September. Obviously this is not an ideal situation in terms of getting him into a good school, but it cannot be avoided. We will be renting a house to begin with and it doesn't really matter where we live for work, so I am looking into areas around where I grew up (Chorleywood), and where my family live (Berkhamsted).

In this situation, I am thinking that it would be best to move to wherever has good primary schools which are not over-subscribed. (If these places exist!). I have been looking at Great Missenden, Amersham and Kings Langley.

Could anybody tell me where I can find out whether or not particular schools are oversubscribed.

Any other advice, or information on the primary schools in the areas mentioned would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi again, kind of bumping this. I have since looked at Amersham more closely and realise this is a bad idea as the schools are over-subscribed.

What I really really need is a list of the schools that were under-subscribed last year in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire so I know where to start when deciding where to live. At this stage I presume we will only get a place in an under-subscribed school and I want to avoid travelling miles to it.

Hope someone can help!

Have you tried phoning the school admissions in the council. I think they are normally quite helpful, and can give you some statistics of admissions for previous years.

there's a nice infant school in the village of Hyde Heath, which is just outside Chesham/Amersham, which I believe was under subscribed for Sept 11. The children from there generally go on to Great Missenden schools at age 7.

Be careful using last year's undersubscription - DD's school last year was undersubscribed (14 out of 20). The year before there was a bulge class of 30 and this year 27 have applied.

I would second phoning the Admissions team for the relevant councils.

Thank you all so much for replying.

Theliverpoolone - that's the second recommendation of Hyde Heath I've had so I'll definitely be looking into that.

You're all right, in the end I'll just have to phone Herts and Bucks councils and find out where is undersubscribed.
