How much 'formal' learning do you do at home with your Year 1/2/3 DCs?

I feel like the most neglectful parent on the planet!

We listen to the reading, learn the spellings and have a positive parental attitude to school. That's it.

Have just picked my jaw off the ground, turns out DS's friends have been going through workbooks, computer tutoring and even photocopying homework worksheets from the other local school.

How do the teachers feel about this - do the kids come in inspired, confused or bored?
As parents did you get more 'involved' as they get older?

PastSellByDate - we have discussed our similar experiences with maths on another thread I believe. I teach DS Y2 maths at home and make sure he progresses, I can't trust the school anymore.

I have managed to get DS moved from the Y1 class into the Y2 class now (it took 6 weeks until they agreed to reassess him). I was sooo sick and angry of being told that he is being differentiated for when I knew he was doing faaar too easy stuff.

Still, now in the Y2 class, it seems he is still doing too easy stuff! And when his teacher suggested to practice counting in 2s,5s and 10s and add numbers in the teens (he can do all that easily to 100 and slightly beyond now) I got the usual - I said, oh, he can do that and she answered: yes, but ... not just up to 15 ... I was lost for words and wanted to screeeeem! I still can't get the school to listen?!

At least he is doing Y2 stuff now, he has had a test at the end of last term and I will ask his teacher how he did.

i used to do loads with my eldest (now just 6, yr 1) but now have another baby :-) and do not have the time and he is now top of the class in most things !! i do the basics when time allows. i now think as we do not do as much work at home he is really keen in school. x
