Crikey Moses, my DD is 10.8 and goes up at 8, lights out and asleep at 8.30.
She is up any time between 7.15 and 45.

DS1 is 9.8, he goes up between 8.30 or 9, sometimes later if he is watching football, lights out is usually 9 or 9.15.

He is up between 6.30 and 7.15 usually.

TheCrackFox · 15/01/2012 17:22

9 ish.

startail · 15/01/2012 17:24

Between 9 and 9.30, lights out around 10 in theory. She's brilliant at getting DH to read and chatter to her till nearer 10.30.

items · 15/01/2012 17:25

DS (8) and DD (5) go at 7:30pm. Both up at 7am

DilysPrice · 15/01/2012 17:27

We aim for lights out by 9, don't always manage it. DD is 9.6.
The problem is that we eat once they're in bed, which ends up being very late.

LineRunner · 15/01/2012 17:30

Mine went to bed at 9pm - they were already in pjs - at that age, and read for 30 minutes to settle.

They had to be up at 7.30am, so not that early a start really.

Labootin · 15/01/2012 17:33

8pm lights out by 8.10 pm

Has to be up at 6.30 am for 7.30 am school start ( not in uk)

Dee03 · 15/01/2012 17:34

My 9.10 ds gets his Xbox turned off at 9 and he usually is asleep by 10....problem I have is he shares a bedroom with 14 year old ds!!!!
In an ideal world I would like him to be asleep by 9, and up until a year ago he was asleep by 8 but that was before Xbox and room share Sad
He loves his sleep and I have to wake him at 7.30am....but he knows if he's grumpy in the morning then his Xbox will get turned off earlier and earlier even if it kills me!!!!! ( or indeed him) lol

Popbiscuit · 15/01/2012 17:40

In pjs and room by 8:00 but reads/draws/goofs around with dog & hamster/talks my ear off until 9:30-10:00. Have tried doing earlier lights-out but it usually backfires and makes her more wide awake.

AChickenCalledKorma · 15/01/2012 17:52

DD1 is 9.5. Have recently moved bedtime later, as she was finding it genuinely difficult to get to sleep. She is expected to be in bed by 8:30pm. From about 7:30pm onwards, she is expected to do quite, calm things that don't disrupt our civilised evening Grin.

ValarMorghulis · 15/01/2012 17:54

I hope mine dont see this thread. I am super mean.
mine go up at about 7.30 have a story and lights out at 8pm.

MissAnnersley · 15/01/2012 17:54

It varies between 8.30 and 9. He does go to sleep straight away though. I get up at 6.30 and he gets up about 7ish so he is tired by bedtime.

He always gets up and doesn't do lie ins - unfortunately!

He has tried to tell me all his friends go to bed after 10 but I think he is just chancing it.

pointythings · 15/01/2012 17:56

DD1 is nearly 11 and she is in bed by 8, has reading time until 8.15 then lights out. She's usually out in minutes. Getting up time is 6am as I have to drop off at breakfast club at 7.15am.

Routine is the same at weekends and she will sleep until 7.30 am (so about 11 hours) if left to do so. DD2 (almost 9) has the same routine.

I think you just have to go with what your DCs seem to need - mine take after me and need a lot of sleep (I'm almost 44 and really should get 8 hours for optimum functioning) but some need less. People get really judgemental about this based on what works for them when they see people do it differently, but as long as everyone bears in mind that getting enough sleep is one of the things that supports success at school the definition of enough has to be based on the individual.

HarrietJones · 15/01/2012 17:56

8 , lights off at 9( shares with dd1 who is12)

Melindaaa · 15/01/2012 17:58
  1. Tv off at 9.
Francagoestohollywood · 15/01/2012 18:05

Ds is 9.6 and bedtime is at 9. He reads a bit and lights out is at 9.30. Usually asleep by 9.45, but he has some nights when he struggles falling asleep.
I wake him up at 7.30.

I had to progressively bring forward his bedtime when he was about 6 and a half, because the older he got the more difficult it became for him to go to sleep at 8 and it was really frustrating for him.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 15/01/2012 18:05

I am going to have to rethink this. DD genuinely finds it hard to fall asleep, but, finds it equally hard to get up in the morning.
Tonight she'll be delighted to find she doesn't have to turn her lights off until 9.
She got a boxed set of St Clare's yesterday so she can plough through them.

pictish · 15/01/2012 18:07

8.30 - 9.

NettoHoHoHoSuperstar · 15/01/2012 18:07

10ish mainly but she chooses really.

She's a night owl like me and finds it impossible to sleep earlier, and then, also like me, worries that she's not asleep.

She hates getting up, but is fine after 10 minutes.

She has to be up at 8.

I know it's unusual, but it works for us and she gets the sleep she needs.

ByTheSea · 15/01/2012 18:09

DD2 is 9 in Yr5 and on a school night goes to bed at 9.30. She is allowed to read in bed. If she's tired, she'll happily go to bed earlier and does that maybe once every week or so.

insanityscratching · 15/01/2012 18:09

Dd almost 9 bedtime is 9pm, she reads until at least 9.30 and generally is asleep by 10pm. She gets up at 7.30 in the week and anywhere between 9 and 10 am at the weekend.
