Didn't know where to ask this question, but where can you get GOOD school tights?!

I need red or navy blue ones for dd age 6, she's quite slim and 120cm tall. I've tried M&S (crotch down by knees in 10 mins), Debenham's (Threadbare thighs and pants area within weeks).

HELP!
(I tried the whole 'you could just wear socks like in the olden days' but she looks at me like I suggested she go to school in knickes & vest! Hmm
And she does wear trousers somethimes but I love her in a pinafore & snuggly tights Smile

Hello,

DD is 5 and tall/slim, so in similar size to your dd, and we have found the same problem with M&S tights - the legs seem very short. Oddly Sainsburys do some decent navy tights, not sure about red though.
Any other suggestions greatfully received; I just don't want to spend a fortune on tights, we seem to go through so many...

Theas18 · 10/01/2012 11:32

Never did manage it LOL. At primary it was socks and skirt or trousers you choose. DD2 wore a lot of long black/grey socks.

Now DD2 is 12 and yr 8 though her best fitting tights are M+S 13-14- about the only "age appropriate thing she fits LOL- she's been in a ladies size 8-10 for ages for everything else but "ladies" tights are terrible on her!

miaowmix · 10/01/2012 11:35

gratefully aargh

popelloucla · 10/01/2012 11:36

I've found Mothercare good for school tights, I don't know if they do red or navy, but the grey ones wash and wear really well. They also feel really soft and seem to stay up. Not sure how big they go, DD1's are age 5-6.
Next tights normally last well, but I don't know if they do school ones.
Matalan tights seem OK too.

startail · 10/01/2012 11:37

Trousers!
DD2 wears 12/14 M&S tights, she is a perfect age10-11 in every thing else. Tights are an absolute PITA I've sent draws full to bags to school hardly worn because they are too small.

Cristiane · 10/01/2012 11:37

John Lewis

Have tried everything and they are the best. They wash well. They are not just tubes, so they accommodate feet properly, stay up nicely.

So worth it

BloooCowWonders · 10/01/2012 11:40

Just put her in socks! My dd2 won't wear tights and once I'd got pas the but-you'll-freeze I'm really pleased!
And she still rolls down knee sock to have bare legs.
The classroom gets so hot I don't blame her, and the walk to school is fine

ClaimedByMe · 10/01/2012 11:43

my dd also wear M&S she is about to turn 9 and wears age 9-10 clothes but she has to wear age 11-12 school tights from M&S, shes always needed bigger sized tights!

SecretNutellaFix · 10/01/2012 11:44

have you tried mothercare? or local school uniform supplier shop?

sugarplumfairy · 10/01/2012 11:53

I second John Lewis, I'd always bought M&S, then last year I bought 2 packs in two different sizes, and they were always falling down, so took the eight pairs back and got a refund. My daughter ended up wearing trousers though prefers skirts. This year thought I would try John Lewis, bought her age size and they have been great, haven't gone all bobbly yet either!

Seona1973 · 10/01/2012 11:58

dd wears tesco red tights and they fit well and seem to stay up well

SoupDragon · 10/01/2012 12:01

I buy cheap and cheerful from Primark because DD keeps trashing them.

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 10/01/2012 13:16

MY DS is a bit older now but she was/is tall and slim. I used to buy Asda tights in the next age band, they fitted and wore really well.

JumpingJetFlash · 10/01/2012 14:04

Try next a few sizes up - my 4 yr old has 7-8 and that seems to work ok

SuePurblybilt · 10/01/2012 14:05

Sainsbos and Asda do the best I've found. I've not had to get navy or red, I've bought grey and black, but IIRC they had the usual range of school colours.

ballstoit · 10/01/2012 14:13

Agree Sainsburys tights wash and wear really well...DD (4, tallish for her age but very slim) is still wearing the ones I bought her last year Smile. They go up to age 14-15 so should hopefully be big enough to fit your DD.

Sofiamum · 10/01/2012 14:14

We also have a massive problem with tights. DD very slim and we've tried every brand and every size and just can't find any that stay up. Shame as we have a couple of beautiful pinafore dresses. She's the only one in her class that wears trousers all the time. Bring on the Summer, lol. x

jepa · 10/01/2012 14:17

I swear by John Lewis but I order on line as this time of year they don't always have the sizes in stock and I always order one size up for my very tall very slim daughter !
Hope this helps

ChippyMinton · 10/01/2012 14:20

I buy skinny DD's in M&S but buy at least i size bigger as they shrink in the tumble dryer.

QED · 10/01/2012 14:23

DD is an average sized 6 year old but needs age 7-8 tights.

whatstheetiquette · 10/01/2012 14:27

My DD has Pex tights which would probably suit your DD. My DD has the opposite problem - I cannot find tights that are big enough for her tummy. She isn't overweight but she is tall and well built. The waist in these tights is about 28cm when it isn't stretched, which is absolutely tiny (the size is age 7-9).

I think I will go to M&S if you find them a wide fit!

Seona1973 · 10/01/2012 14:28

dd is 8 but I get her size 9-10 tights from Tesco. They definitely do red as dd has them, dont know about navy

shannie · 10/01/2012 16:32

Same problem here. John Lewis, we got red and navy.

Gorran · 10/01/2012 16:38

John Lewis and M&S. The latter I buy in a size 7-8 despite her being 5.
