Didn't know where to ask this question, but where can you get GOOD school tights?!

I need red or navy blue ones for dd age 6, she's quite slim and 120cm tall. I've tried M&S (crotch down by knees in 10 mins), Debenham's (Threadbare thighs and pants area within weeks).

HELP!
(I tried the whole 'you could just wear socks like in the olden days' but she looks at me like I suggested she go to school in knickes & vest! Hmm
And she does wear trousers somethimes but I love her in a pinafore & snuggly tights Smile

I like matalan - order up though. My 4 yr old is 115cm and has to wear 6-7 yr old tights, but they fit perfectly and don't fall down.

snowmaiden · 10/01/2012 17:01

Another john Lewis fan here!!!!

Next- ok but sizing was all wrong!
M&S and Mothercare- just tubes so bunch round feet and ankles and look awful on skinny legs.

HeatherShimmer · 10/01/2012 17:08

I second Pex tights. Lovely quality, they wash well and don't wrinkle or bobble.

pugsandseals · 10/01/2012 18:04

Another vote for John Lewis here! Wink

tiggerandpoohtoo · 10/01/2012 18:07

I have found Sainsbury's tights ok too. DD is 6 but we buy 7-8 as she is tall too.

taurean · 10/01/2012 18:07

Definitely John Lewis and they do a lovely bright red!

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 10/01/2012 18:07

H&M tights are brilliant, but they never have much left past November-ish.

picnicbasketcase · 10/01/2012 18:08

My DD needed dark green ones - couldn't find them anywhere but eventually tracked them down in BHS. They had red, navy, black and grey as well IIRC. They are lasting very well, hardly any wear or bobbling so far. HTH

nailak · 10/01/2012 18:11

Asda, have lasted since Sept with no issues.

pointythings · 10/01/2012 20:08

DD2 is currently in Tesco 11-12 (she is almost 9 but very tall indeed). Even though she is skinny these are not baggy on her and they stay up very well, no bobbling either.

Tonksforthememories · 10/01/2012 20:14

BHS tights have been best for my tall slim DD1, They do 80 denier childrens tights too which she loves. I always buy a size bigger for tights though.

JennyWren · 10/01/2012 20:15

Marks and Spencer but never tumble dried works for us - they seem to shrink at the thought of the hot air. Might that work?

EdithWeston · 10/01/2012 20:16

ASDA - but they seem to have navy in stock only for about 5 minutes for one random week in August. Even in stores where half the local primaries have navy-based uniforms.

Otherwise John Lewis or M&S.

CrispLeCrisp · 10/01/2012 20:19

Primary have the best tights for my dd - tall slim 5-6. Hers are dark grey but I have a feeling they do navy. She has not trashed a single pair since sept.

CrispLeCrisp · 10/01/2012 20:20

Primark. Blinking phone.

TheAvocadoOfWisdom · 10/01/2012 20:24

John Lewis.

BleatingRose · 10/01/2012 20:27

We use Sainsbury and Pex, never had any problems.

Madsometimes · 11/01/2012 09:43

Buy them big. They won't fall down. Don't be surprised if your five year old needs age 7-8.

Have always bought tights in much larger sizes than my children normally wear. I have no idea why retailers do not just make tights in proper sizes.

Madsometimes · 11/01/2012 09:44

Oops, I see your dd is six. You may need 8-9.

stealthsquiggle · 11/01/2012 09:51

John Lewis, you say - hmmm. I shall try that.

The only problem with "not just tube" tights is that DD can put them on upside-down (which, I suppose, goes well with her back-to-front tops and on-the-wrong-feet shoes Hmm)

DorisIsWaiting · 11/01/2012 10:03

DD1 is 6 and has age 7-8 tights she's been in these since she was 5, I'm hoping that they will last the winter but...

DD2 is on the 2nd centile for height she can wear m and s tights in her age 3-4!!!

Like jenny wren we don't tumble dry just hang out on a rack

coronet · 11/01/2012 11:30

DD is 5 and wears M&S 7-9.

DD1 is 7 and wears M&S 9-10

Really confusing when we go to H&M whose tights are huge!

Alwaysworthchecking · 11/01/2012 22:21

Good to know all of this as tights are apparently against dd's personal code of 'things she is not willing to tolerate'. It's long list and tights are very near the top of it, I think - somewhere near to 'reading aloud'.

At the moment she wear trousers (very difficult to find some that will fit her as she is skinny) or skirts/pinafores with leggings and socks underneath. To be honest, that look is not a good one but she's happy and school have yet to mention it.

I am starting to wonder, though, if she will makean exception for Pex tights.

heymammy · 11/01/2012 22:31

John Lewis are the only tights that seem to fit and don't shrink, however pretty dear at £7 for two pairs considering dd1 has put a hole through 3 pairs already since august Hmm

littleducks · 11/01/2012 22:46

We have two/three sizes up asda tights at the moment.... I do look after them (vaguely) was at 40 deg with decent washing powder then dry in airer or radiator if needed desperately.

I don't know if any of that applies to you, but thought I would mention it. My best friend buys uniform the same as me then normally passes it down to dd, looking immaculate but shrunk
