SATS results - why I'm proud my daughter goes to Jubilee Primary School

Our school just had some very shocking SATS, and I'm coming to understand what a retrospective measure of a school's quality they are. My daughter is in reception and I couldn't be happier with her class teacher and the classroom learning assistant, and nor could she. On the one day she's been ill she still wanted to go in! She's very young for her year, but already reading well and having a bash at writing enthusiastically. The way they are learning is very creative, and she is always coming home singing a new song or carrying something she's made. There is homework that streches her every week, including really creative maths activities. Although it is very sad that last year's year 6 were served badly by the school, it doesn't reflect on the new headteacher, the staff (where there have been some changes) and structures that he has brought to the school. Any one had a similar experience?

Tis a very good point about how retrospective SAT results are.

I know a school near me is going down hill very rapidly. But it will be another 4 or 5 years before their results show the true extent of what's happening.

Really pleased for you that your schools turned around and your DD is doing well. Change of HT ha a massive impact.

Ours had lousy sats too, but we're really happy with it. We've just had a new head teacher too, who's lovely and hugely creative. Smile

If it's Jubilee in N16, it sounds a lovely school and glad you are so happy there! I wish we were near it. And I'd be quite happy somewhere with lousy Sats and more creative learning. I'm sure it must follow through to better achievement in the end. What is the worst is lousy sats plus narrow sats-focused curriculum.

Hi Trifling, it's Jubilee in SW2. It is a lovely school! I can imagine narrow sats-focused curriculum being frustrating, although it is important that they get the basics.

Well done to your daughter, sounds like you've got a great school where she is happy and she will grow in so many more ways than just being taught to pass her SATs. I teach catch up English and maths in a secondary school to children whose results showed they were level 4 at year 6 but don't seem to be making progress. Children who come from SAT factory schools can often do well in those particular tests but have limited ability to apply these skills outside of a test situation. These tests are so damaging to education. I believe that a school that teaches children to be creative, confident and independent learners is serving children far better than a school who spends months focussing in getting a good set of exam results. (Sorry about the rant- this is one of my soap boxes!)

hi my daughter is also at Jubilee sw2 and my experience fully mirrors that of sploj. We were also dissapointed by the SATS results just published, but they dont reflect where the school is at now at all. The school itself is great, the teaching is exciting and creative and i applaud the head for how much the school has been turned around in the past 3 years. I whole heartedly believe my daughter is thrieving within the diversity of the school, and couldnt be happier with the progress that she is making.

Ah, I just looked at the results, they aren't as bad as some/many, truly.

If you want a school that reports false accusations against the parents and gives false statement to social services and puts you thru nothing but stress and anger this is the school that does gives false statements and puts words into a six year olds mouth to get a false confession to give the social services and the parents go thru hell trying to prove that the child is getting looked after correctly this is what we had to go thru this hell of a school which we now taking legal actions against them so please beware don’t send your child to this school if your beautiful isn’t liked the head teacher and the vice headteacher will make false claims against you and gives comments like better look for a different school for your children plus your child can come home injured and they will never call you or report it beware from Jubilee Primary School don’t let your child go here
