Any other Y6 mums who are feeling rather misty-eyed about all the 'last' things their DC's are doing at primary school?

I went to their Christmas carol concert last night, the whole school (400+) assembled on the altar and sang their little hearts out for an hour.

It's the start of Christmas for me every year and I can't believe it was their last one Sad.

It made me think about all the other 'lasts' there will be this year.

It will be DS's last carols tomorrow night. I don't think I will feel tearful, although his cornet playing may bring a wincing tear to my eye!

However, I did feel very tearful every time DD did something for the last time 2 years ago - what's all that about?Hmm

I'm more thinking 'DS only has 2 terms left to learn everything he needs to learn in primary school'

Feeling very panicky :)

(And I'm not sure they do any work in the last term, either...)

Have you got younger Dc's sandyballs?

Not feeling nostalgic - yet - but I know that I will be a gibbering wreck this time next July, I was this year for the now year 7's and they are not even my children! Pathetic!

I know it will be a different kettle of fish when my youngest leaves primary, but she is only 3 so I am OK for quite a while yet!

They don't, Indigo. It's just a bun-fight after the bloody SAT's and then a horrid shock when they get to secondary school and mountains of homework.

My ds has sung his last solo- he's sung one at every Carol concert since he was in year 1. I wept buckets.

ElaineReese · 14/12/2011 17:14

Oh yes.
I do wish she'd had a half-decent part in the school performance for the last possible time ever, but there we go. I can't believe how quickly this year is going.

And I only have to hum the year 6 leavers' song in my head to well up a bit...

Iamnotminterested · 14/12/2011 17:19

..."This time next July" ? What the hell am I talking about Confused

spiderpig8 · 14/12/2011 17:24

NO.Look forwards not backwards!

They are my only DCs. Quite weird having twins, doing the whole school thing just the once. I did say to DH last night perhaps we should have another!

I saw ds1 in his Christmas production last night (they do a full blown panto - 3 hours!). He had a whole scene all to himself pretty much and was so brilliant and confident. The whole of Y6 were excellent and looked so grown up . They will look so little again when they go to high school next year...

gazzalw · 14/12/2011 18:23

DS doesn't do last acting/singing role till right at the end of the summer term...so it's not sinking in yet. Have DD too who is younger so it doesn't really feel like the end of an era! But know what you mean....
Actually I feel a bit as if we are just biding our time almost wishing the next term away waiting for that magic date - 1st March - when we hopefully will have a clearer view of where DS will be going to secondary school!

yes, My Dts are in yr 6 and their last christmas concert is tomorrow. Am feeling sad too. I think its an only child/twin thing, you know its the end and there is nobody else coming else coming along after.

However I'm also thinking the way Indigo is thinking about DT2. Trying to enjoy the festive season before dwelling on that though.

crazygracieuk · 14/12/2011 20:21

My Y6 dc is my oldest and I've been really cool about it probably because I have 2 younger ones still in primary.

I've been thinking about all my dc1's firsts in secondary rather than the last things at primary. Dc1 was never one to get excited/emotional about events like carol services so I've been the same.
