Cumnor House school, houses to live nearby

Hi mumsnet mums.
If any mum having kids in Cumnor house school can give me an idea..
which is the good area to live near this school, near Purley oak or near Purley rail station, any suggestions?
I have job in canary wharf evryday so probably will be looking near or around station but have no idea about the area at all.

I'm guessing you mean the boys' site rather than the girls'. The area around Purley Oaks isn't a nice as around Purley, but is still much nicer than lots of Croydon. Everywhere round the girls' site is lovely, but much more expensive.

If you are a daily commuter, then most such parents drive to the car park at Purley station (you can get season parking tickets at the council car park across the road from the station). The school draws from a fairly enormous catchment, and relatively few boys walk to school.

car parking is good option too.

Just checked in RightMove, and none found. some 3 bed is is like more than 500K. thats too expensive. :-(

If you're looking around Woodcote Lane then you're looking at some of the most expensive property in the country!

Where do you live currently and do you have to move? And if you are looking at moving then why not look at the excellent schools in Sanderstead rather than Cumnor House?

Thanks. I live currently in East Croydon and will be moving soon to somewhere near Cumnor or schoolwise. I have already applied for DS to Elmhurst and Cumnor. Now may be its too late to explore more school in a complete new area...which school in Sanderstead? is that a good area to live? I liked Park Hill area but West croydon and some areas in east croydon are dull and have bad history.

When does ds start school? There are 3 Sanderstead schools: Ridgeway, Gresham and Atwood, all of which would be considered to be very good schools. The 3 schools have very different styles: Atwood is the most traditional, Gresham is a 1 form entry "village" school, and Ridgeway is large and has a fairly radical approach to the curriculum and learning. Worth visiting all 3 if you can. Families who can get into one of these schools generally do so in preference to Cumnor House, though Cumnor is a good backup if you fail to get in.

My kid will start reception next sept. How is sanderstead area to live in? your car park idea at Purley station is good but trafiic in Purley, I am not sure about that. especially morning times :-)

Sanderstead is a very good place to live. However I fear that you will be too late to apply for the schools this year and they are usually very oversubscribed.

Which railway station are you hoping to commute from? Most Cumnor parents use Purley. Are you hoping to walk to school and the station?

I guess that life is more complicated with reception and Year 1 being in Woodcote Lane, and then moving to Pampisford Road in Year 2. You would have to live on the Woodcote side of Purley really to avoid central Purley in the morning. But obviously that is VERY expensive.

Unless you manage to move before the primary school application deadline, you would probably struggle to get into Atwood, Gresham or Ridgeway although where you live would affect your place in any waiting list. My 3 are (or have been) at Ridgeway, with one moving onto Trinity for secondary.

Sanderstead has good rail connections as it has two stations and you can avoid a good amount of the traffic up to Cumnor (assuming you mean the Pampisford Road site) by using side roads. It's going to be hell one you get there of course :)
