Same children always picked - why?

Out of a year of just under 60 the same children are always picked to do speeches in assembly, be on the school council, take the lead in plays, be on the school teams. No one else ever seems to get a go at anything! I have asked why only to be told 'children have to learn to accept disappointment'.

Why is this the case?

I was that child who was picked to do anything in front of parents. Until I went into my Dad's class - he completely ignored me the whole time, even if I was the only one with a hand up. It was bliss!

At primary school, I think there's a lot of point in letting all the children have a go at everything. All the children have to learn about disappointment at some point, not just the bright/talented ones.

I agree with Chandon and losingtrust. As a DC I did not want to be picked and I liked being back row of the chorus, not surprisingly my DCs are similar and are very self conscious when asked to do anything in public. The worst thing for me would have a mother moaning because she wanted to see me centre stage.
School council often have to write a manifesto, deliver it and be voted on-not something that a timid DC is going to cope with.
